Great question man...

I would advise that you first warm up...light jog for around 3-5 minutes. After the light jog, go right into sprints. I would advise that you run on a FLAT and FIRM surface in a pair of good shoes (fit 2 run - a store at the mall can get you fitted for some good shoes)

next as far as style goes...I would start with a 40-50 yard sprint. Take about a 60 second rest, and return with another 40-50 yard sprint. Take around 3-5 minutes rest, and go for a 100 yard sprint. Wait 2-3 minutes and return with a 100 yard sprint. At this point take a 3-5 minute rest and do several 20 yard sprints, back and forth (2 sets each time, then 2-3 minutes rest in between).

This is a good way to start the sprinting. I would not advise taking less time for breaks or else you risk mediocre performance from lack of recovery, as well as increasing your heart rate dangerously high.

After a while, you will be able to do 200m sprints no problem.

edit:

flat and soft, with good shoes. Some people SWEAR by sand....others use grass (a bit hard to jumprope in though), and others stick to exercise mats.

should i take days off in between sprinting?

I've been thinking about getting a personal training certification to do some side work. Any advice/comments/personal experiences?

Only if you train them immediately after eating ;-)

In general, it's a thankless job that doesn't pay very well.

It is best to freelance and make full price for your training services instead of working for say LA fitness and making very little.

If you can establish a steady clientele to pay you directly - it is a good job. However, a personal training certification at that point is not needed unless you are dealing with clients who would require it.

If you want to work for a gym, you would definitely require it. The only problem is that training for a gym generally doesn't pay very well and can often lead to problems with management and clients, etc.

I might just be jaded, but I do not enjoy the personal training field when I'm locked into working for a gym.

I do not. Although I have had it, and nutritionally it is very good.

I probably should add it to my diet, but I honestly don't have much time for learning new preparations and so forth.
