I feel as though alot of people improperly do the box squat and/or dont do enough belt squats / reverse hyper (rare machine to find in a gym) and generally not enough sled work. he preaches all day long about the work capacity of these men and since increasing mine and adding GPP 6-12 hours after my main workout I have noticed a large difference in the performance of my hamstrings and triceps. Im not saying there arent raw lifers who can figure westside out but most of them have seen success in other methods and so stay the course of that. Nothing wrong with that though you do what works thats #1

Sure. Anything (within reason) will work as long as consistency is present IMO. It's just finding what could be optimal is what's pugnacious.

Main variables for success would be consistency/enjoy what you do/health imo. Finding what's optimal in term of gains is probably impossible but optimal for me is something you could enjoy and stay healthy for years.

Ofc I can only truly speak for myself and the Subjr I coach but he're what I found when I stopped looking at ''programs'' and started looking at training variables instead.
1. Easier to plan for meets/mock meets. You can adjust on the go even when you have already planned your annual competition plan. (Using different types of periodization without having fear of getting away from a c/c program)
2. I started to look beyond the sets and rep. (Intensity and overall volume matter the most)
3. Forgot what I thought I knew about CNS fatigue and the need of deloads (Frequency is adjustable based on different factors like how far you are from a meet and how beat up your are)
4. Easier to stay healthy with auto regulation of partially auto regulated programs (Basing your current weight or your weekly increase on how you feel now or how the last week felt)
... Could probably find a lot more hehe
I still use many tools from what I've learned from other programs like amraps, singles, etc.

Let's look at what me and my lifter achieved since this ''discovery''

Aubacon
...
June 2014: Total 1245 @180.7
-injured and broken. Numbed toes and back pain that would wake me up for months.
2015 Rehabing and still searching for teh program (1 year of not competing)
June: Total 1300 @ 182
Eye opening
Nov 2015: Total: 1333@179 with spare and injury free
April 2016: Total 1422@186.7 with spare on my bench and a barely missed 600 lbs deadlift.
+112 lbs on my total 11 months and no injuries and no drugs unless you count bacon. Hopping to hit 1500+ at Nationals this year as a light 205 lbs (in March)

M. Kennedy (SubJr until Jan 2017)
16 years old (Birthday in march)
Feb 2015
S: 310 B: 205 D: 345 Gym total: 860 @ 165 (when I started working with him)
April 2016 (Just turned 18)
S: 457 B: 275 D: 507 Total: 1240 @ 182.2 meet lifts with spare
+360 lbs in 14 months injury free and drug free

He's now looking to beat National records before leaving subjr and looking to compete at IPF worlds before turning open for sure with his 4 junior years.
