a repetitive, boring job with no career prospects wont keep the enthusiasm up for too long. its even worse if the only challenge comes from simply having to appear at the workplace on every shift.

Even a 40 hour work week is for suckers

I'd rather not work and suicide at 65, having lived 3x as long as the average person (In terms of time spent doing what I really want to do) than be some old fuck's slave for 65 years just to die comfortably in 10 more years.

Work is a scam unless you're doing what you love

Just doing the math:

Every day you get 24 hours

24 - 8 for sleep
16 - 1 for cooking / hygiene
15 - 1.5 for daily commute
13.5 - 8 for work

That's 24 - 18.5 before you even GET to enjoy time to yourself, this totally excludes any responsibility outside of your job.

5.5 hours every day at best, assuming your life is totally responsibility free. Most people get nothing.

Compare that to working only what's required to live

24 - 8 for sleep
16- 1 for cooking / hygiene
15 - 1.5 for daily commute
13.5 - 4 for work

That's only 24 - 14.5 instead, giving you 4 extra hours to do whatever you like with (Essentially giving you two lifetimes, since living is really only measured by doing what you love)

It's a no brainer to me, I mean yeah you have to live with less. You won't be partying every week end, you won't have a ton of extra cash to spend on some bitch that wants diamonds, but who wants to spend money on that shit, anyway?

I've always had extras for hobbies and worthwhile things that aren't insanely expensive / stupid to be spending money on.

and I don't care how much you think you lose independence by not working 40+ hours and having a lot of money. Trust me when I tell you that there is no pain that hits harder than realizing you've been giving your life up for some corporate machine that couldn't give a fuck about you.

The key to living a good life is taking account all of the blood suckers that exist in your daily life (These are things like work / girlfriend, etc.)

If you are living with someone, ask yourself honestly if they are even worth it. How much does your bitch suck out of you on a daily basis? When you come home from work, does she ambush you and want to talk about some stupid bull shit that consumes 40 minutes of your time? That's gay, tell her to stop it. Everyone has tons of problems like these that are leeching time / quality of life from them every single day.

and yeah don't even get me started on what I think about the current work condition in the West. Working 40+ hours is retarded, I will never do it and anyone who does should seriously consider making life choices that allow them NOT to do it, before they end up being 65 and realizing "Holy fuck, I just lost my life, now I'm old as fuck and can't get it back. The guy I worked for is now dead and nobody gives a shit about me or my hard work - all I have is this retirement money to show for it." That's a lame reality to end up in.

That's a mentality of trying to justify being lazy. I'd rather work my ass off and enjoy being able to do/have what I want than being broke and living till I'm 100 y/o. Also if you see most of the 100+ y/o people alive today, it's the ones who worked their asses off their whole life. You don't hear of hobos living to be 100+ lol

yeah great on-the-spot internet statistics not to mention youre only talking about extremes. when you lose the opportunity for using the extra money it means youre doin too much work.

Working 55-65 (depends on what needs to be done by when) a week as a machinist, nights, and don't personally have a problem with it. I think the big factor is finding something you enjoy. The only real issue I have is my ex and I are trying to work it out and we're a bit limited in how much we can see each other. Maybe that's a good thing.

Can't imagine trying to survive on 40 or less..

My boss tells me about 40+ hour shifts he's done, though. Fuck that.

I'm not talking about working 60+ hours a week, I think that's excessive. With a mentality of 40 hours a week is too much work like he stated, he's trying to justify being lazy.

40 hours a week isn't bad at all lol. You should easily be able to balance 40 hours a week and having a life.
