Here's a helluva bang-up write up on common knife myths:
http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/knifelies.htmlAnd, something simple you can do with anyone who claims to have the kung-fu for knife defense.
Have the defender wear a plain white t-shirt. You're armed with a regular red marker.
On the command of "go" from a third party, see how many times you can either "cut" or "stab" the defender, either in the torso, or along the arms.
Odds are gonna be pretty good that you've carved 'em up nicely.
I agree with that.
But that post is very biased (is that the right word?)
Drills doesn't help the chance of you surviving if someone draws a knife on you?
Everybody who trains like this are half-hearted in their attacks and it's not realistic? Cause the attacker (training-partner) isn't aiming at you?
Come on, that's very biased, but still yeah the other stuff is sound.
Also most of the time when someone draws a knife, he's not actually going to kill you (but it happens too often).
But the smartest thing to do is run. A good friend of mine, while we went in junior high, he got attacked by a grown-up with a knife. He ended up breaking that guy's arm and kicking him.
He wouldn't be able to do that without training since childhood imo, but still fancy shit, that's thrown out the window. If you got no other option brutal and effective routines, might get you out alive where you have no choice but to defend.
Btw we were all astounded by that friend of mine, since he's so calm and easygoing Oo
