I hate how oblivious these researchers are to statistical regressions.

Were all the groups fed and exercised the exact quotas? Yet the message of the conclusions is a given. Not sure why she was so surprised.

"Microbial genes, brain & behaviour – epigenetic regulation of the gut–brain axis"

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gbb.12109/full

Interesting article, just adding to the rapidly growing field of the gut microbiome influence on human health.

Also of note on this subject, when I was at a conference this past week, I listened to a talk/lecture on how the gut microbiota influences the host via modulating certain circadian clock proteins, indicating an even further level of regulation.

"Theobromine increases NAD+/Sirt1 activity and protects the kidney under diabetic conditions"

so caffeine can also help via being metabolized into theobromine and inducing these effects. Very nice.

"Meal frequency and timing in health and disease"

http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2014/11/13/1413965111.abstract

Here's a full text link from my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6pe0rte4a3jc03w/Meal%20frequency%20and%20timing%20in%20health%20and%20disease%20PNAS%202014.pdf?dl=0

Very cool paper.

Has a nice section about intermittent fasting, which honestly just recapitulates much of what I've said over the last several months, but it's quite good nonetheless. Talks about hormesis, bioenergetics, inflammation, ameliorated repair mechanisms and removal of debris/wastes and such.
