ya the only fish I eat like that is ahi tuna, which is usually just seared and raw in the middle. So dank. Never had heard of salmon being cooked medium rare tho that's cool! I cook a lot I rarely eat out anymore unless I forget my lunch.

Well I mean you can eat sushi salmon raw obviously so I didn't really even have to cook it but yeah you end up getting this unreal crust on the outside and the inside just flakes beautifully but is nice and soft. If I make it again in the next few days I'll take a pic but I usually go backwards from a traditional sear, I'll heat up my olive oil and then lay it flesh side down first, the first side always gets the best crust in my experience and I'll cook it until I'm happy with the look of the flesh at a medium high heat and then I'll flip 'er over and lower the heat to a medium for the scale side (also don't want scales on my flesh so ya) and just sort of heat it through until I'm fairly sure it's about medium

Oh and season the flesh with fresh cracked pepper and coarse sea salt ofc

200-250

it's very good having a well-equipped kitchen and the ability to cook restaurant-quality food. wholesale membership keeps it cheap.

to the people spending ridiculous amounts of money on food - it doesn't matter your income level - that's some stupidity.

pick up a frying pan, watch some 60-second gordon ramsay videos, and get a costco membership. god damn.

How is it stupid what someone decides what they want to spend money on?

If I can afford to spend it on food because I enjoy eating out why is that stupid?

two back-to-back excuses makes it sound like you have some sort of desire to do better from a sociological standpoint.

take a look at the complete nutrition facts of your favorite meals at your favorite restaurants, or try to use a couple hours on a day off to do meal prep!

Idgaf about nutrition, and I have 10 or so hours of free time literally every day. Fuk meal prep.

I'd say I spend about $400-450/mo. on food for myself and my wife.

We eat a ton of chicken; which you can get for under $1/lb., tilapia; which comes in bags of six for $3/bag, rice; which is dirt cheap, and steamer bags of veggies that we throw in the microwave that are only $1 each.
Farmers markets make a HUGE difference when buying fruits, etc. that aren't in steamer bags. I can go there and come back with a quarter fridge full of fruits and veggies for around $30-40. Bananas, apples, oranges, kiwi, tomatoes, spinach, kale, carrots, sweet potatoes, red onions, etc.
You'd be surprised how many meals you can make with a random assortment of vegetables, some chicken leg quarters, and a whole assortment of spices.
Grass fed beef is pretty cheap here as well, if we decide we want burgers or steaks, which is generally a weekend thing.

Every once in a while we'll buy fresh seafood; crab legs, lobster tail, clams, etc. I'd say that's on the pricier side of shit we eat, but it's basically our splurge meal.

We eat out maybe 2-3 times in two weeks. Once or twice for lunch and maybe once for dinner.

when i had my own apartment and living the good life, I can get away with 75 a week. cooking is such a money saver and more nutritious AND you can flavor it how you like it every time.

this thread makes me feel like a king. I spend about 500 a month on food and I eat like a champion. I rarely eat out, so this doesn't factor that in. strictly grocery shopping. during football season I do spend about 50 every Sunday to host the game and buy beer and wings. but shit? you guys realize that grocery shopping and cooking isn't just easy.. it's a part of life. you literally attain a life skill...and save money. I thought this was normal. lol

you can disagree, but anyone who argues that unnecessary expenses, especially out of laziness, is NOT a stupid thing, isn't the argument of a smart and successful man. might be one of those ends justifying means type situations. hell, i WANT to sub-contract 100% of my jobs and eat a diet that consists exclusively of pineapple pizza. i can afford it. does that sound smart to you? your logic is absurd!
*hnf safety*
everybody goes out to eat it's great this is one of those things where the difference between every so often and close to every day is huge and the factor in which i base my opinion. op has confirmed this in post #10

but still, amuse me

Here regular chicken breast is 20 dollars per KG unless on sale. Bell peppers are 5 bucks a pop, fruit is through the rough . Just a bag of frozen berries is 17 dollars. Rice is expensive. Milk is reasonable as its subsidized by the government or else no one could afford it. A small bag of spinach is 6 bucks. Everything is half ruined all the time because it freezes on the truck coming up due to -50C.

I'm not even in the communities where its 15 - 20 dollars per loaf of bread.

I still get away though it with 800 - 1000 a month for myself and my girlfriend. We eat healthy and abundantly..

Most common items
Cottage Cheese
Bananas
Spinach
Milk
Eggs
Chicken
Rice
Pasta
Greek Yogurt
Frozen Fruit
Apples
Canned Tuna
Wraps
Oatmeal
Sometimes fish but its 30 bucks for a small amount of salmon and the frozen fish here is garbage unless you go out and catch it in the summer.
Tons of beans and chickpeas

For flavor
Canned diced tomatos
Fish oil and Sesame oil + Soy Sauce
Tons of different spices
