Oh that's not too bad. You trying to get into structural firefighting?

Ive thought about it for years now ever since I was young.

Would need to save a fuck ton of money to live off of for 6 month's of training though.
Just got out of the army this summer been in the oil patch since july.
Making legit 2x what I did in the army for not a lot of work. Long days though.
Last month I worked 20 days was off for 10. Take home was 6400. Month before that take home 6200.
I just started with this new company on the 22/13 paid flights I should grosse 10k a month or more. Hotels every night 48 a day for food.

So to answer your question, its not completely out of the question. Hard to pass up making so much money though. Firefighter is def top career choice for me though, should of got into it right out of high school.

I'm in Toronto personally, and we don't work 10 a month... We work 7

yeah that's awesome. If I don't get on at home next year when they do their probationary testing I'll be looking everywhere across the country. Toronto would be a cool place to do it.

What's standard starting salary for you up in Canada?

I don't know about Toronto but the city where I'm from a first class firefighter (start at 4th class when you're hired and have to take a test to move up to 3rd, 2nd and 1st. IIRC you have 3 years to become a 3rd class or you lose your job where I'm from) makes 92k a year I think.

Yeah Toronto is bad ass. Largest dpt in canada makes for fun times. It's just super hard to get in. Their last recruit ran 43 spots, with 8200 applications.

Toronto starts at 60k, and goes to 93k after 4 years.

Yeah sounds like Charlotte's program. This current testing started at 15,000 applicants and it's down to the top 400. We have one more written test in early December that'll take the top 100. Then the fitness test in January will select the 30 that will begin the 26 week training.

I'm guessing north carolina

Thunder bay sounds like it's similar to Toronto in pay scale.

We do our testing differently I think than T.O. Written aptitude test is first. Only the first 500 can write. After that they take the top 100+ ties pending the scores are over 65%. Those get to do the physical. The physical isn't the CPAT based test that a lot of departments do, it's a lot harder afaik. A lot of guys fail. From there, if you pass the physical then you get to give them your resume. Then they grade the resumes for interviews and only 30 or so get interviews. I passed the written and physical last year but didn't get an interview so I'm just boosting my resume and going to train harder for the next round of testing. Went to fire college last year, graduated this last June.

I absolutely can't wait to get on a department somewhere.

That's awesome man. Keep with it.

Yeah, NC. And yeah we do the CPAT here. The only event i'm not sure about is the ceiling breach and pull. Ofc everything is crucial if my ankle isn't better by then. Ha

Oh okay that's not too bad. Yeah Toronto is tricky, I have to admit, being the youngest person to be in my recruit class was super cool though.

Keep at it and it will happen
