My knees stay outside my ankles, and my feet don't collapse anymore, even when I squatted 160. I don't think it's as important to keep feet forward the more narrow your stance is.

It's possible to maintain proper knee position with toes turned out but you have to work way harder to externally rotate. If you have the ability to externally rotate hard enough it really doesn't matter how far out your toes point because your glutes and lateral rotators can pull your femur out to maintain good knee and ankle positioning. It's not a matter of importance, it's a binary thing. If you can't support good external rotation of the femur, you need to protect your knee by pointing your toes forward, period. Unless you don't want your knees in 20 years, in which case do whatever you want

Probably ideal. Just enough to unimpinge the hip but not so much that your ankles will collapse easily

Make sense. I always felt better that way. It's much harder to keep the right knee tracking when squatting than sumo deadlifting and even then I try not to open too much...even with my ''decent'' mobility.

My knee is well outside my ankles, and it feels much stronger pointing out slightly. My feet twist outwards anyways when I'm screwing them into the ground

i hate sumo deadlifts, incomplete range of motion for the sake of pulling a little bit more weight. kind of like quarter squats, except sumo also forces you to sacrifice a bit of joint stability in order to perform the movement

id be interested in a front shot of your squat, i think you probably experience more valgus than you realize. screwing your feet into the ground is a cue but the outcome shouldnt actually be external rotation of the feet. you apply torque through your legs but the goal is for your feet to stay in place and that external rotation torque is expressed through abduction of the knee

I'll be back to squatting next week hopefully, I'll post my top set. I think my feet also push outwards just because I don't have the mobility to keep them straight ahead

3 front views of my squat here. http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=74850681&f=60
