I just started a second shift job, it's pretty physical work but not real heavy weight. The only times when i can lift are wake up early before work, or after work right before i go to sleep. I'm thinking the second is better, but what's your opinion?

Well that depends on you. See here is the problem either way.

Working out first thing in the morning - you are tired, have virtually no food being processed in your body for energy conversion, and time restraints.

Working out right before bed - you are tired after a long day of work (fatigue), you interfere with your sleep pattern. HOWEVER, sleeping right after a workout is probably the best thing you can do to aid in body repair...just not right away. Take a shower and have a shake BEFORE sleeping.

I would probably select before bed as the better option for myself. The easiest way to decide on which one is to see how your body responds. If you are semi-nocturnal like me, the late hours tend to be much better on me. It's really a matter of body type and preference. Both have negative sides.

edit: Also forgot to mention - check out http://wheycheap.com/ (its just like woot.com but bodybuilding products)

Well i could stay up 45 minutes to an hour afterwards.

As for working out before work i was going to get up early enough to eat some food then work out an hour or so later. Let me know which you suggest, thanks.

got a question about 5x5 program.

so, im lifting 17.5kg bicep curls, usually the first 2-3 sets i can get my target of 5's ( could possibly do more, but i stop at 5. )
after this my strenght simply diminish! and can only handle 2-4 reps.

what should i do? just pump out the 2 - 4 reps or change the weights for a lighter one?
lifting for 2-4 reps, is it possible for muscle to grow?

Thanks for help m8.

hmm...well I would do 1 week of each...and see which one feels better to you. At this point they are truly equals....but the morning might be the better option stricly from a point of view regarding circadian rhythms.

FORCE the 5 reps. To do this...after you fail at 2-4...rest the weights at your sides and try again....however for bicep curls you should probably strive for a bit higher reps...more like 8.

NO PROBLEM.

I have the perfect bars for you...I have 4 types in my pantry right now. Each for different uses.

The two best for your purposes and criteria are the following:

1. Zero Impact Pumpkin Supreme (30g protein, 39g complex carbs, 100% natural ingredients, no bullshit soy) TASTES GREAT! Like Pumpkin Spice...very good flavor.

2. BioNutritional Power Crunch Bars ANY FLAVOR (13g protein, 15g carbs, 100% natural ingredients, 100% whey protein) tastes absolutely rediciulous....these are wafer bars. The chocolate tastes just like a kit kat bar...epic...but you have to eat 2 of them to get enough macros.

BB.com has both of these. I highly recommend them.
