I burnt out of Earlier this year because my job worked me into the ground.

I bet none of you have experienced working from 8 am one day to 5 am the next day, then sleeping on the floor for a few hours until 8 am and resuming the next work day.

I did this at least 5 times earlier this year. Most of the time though I would work until at least 2 am then take a 1 hour bus ride home pass out at home for a few hours at the office and then wake up and take another 1 hour commute back to work.

I can't even count the number of times being focused on work made me skip meals either ...

Was it worth it? Hell no. I don't even make a lot of money. I did it because I wanted to achieve perfection and show my bosses how dedicated I am to getting work done and meeting deadlines regardless of how unrealistic the deadlines were.

But now I'm taking time off work to travel and do what I love. When I go back I will refuse to work the hours I did previously. I want a normal life and I will work the 9-5 and that's it.

This is not even legal lol, fuck that shit. I've done a couple 14-16 hour shutdowns, but still go home for some rest

care to list some details?

One way is to get a 4 year engineering degree, and land a job in San Jose making 100k a few years out of college.  Then you get to spend 4 hours/day for your commute.  No thank you.

he's referring to investment banking.

100k in CA is more like 70k in GA due to the inflation, which really isn't a lot.

If I had a high paying job which I some what enjoyed (e.g. investment banking, private equity, hedge funds etc) I wouldn't mind working long ass weeks.

for 9 months I worked 14 hours per day, 7 days per week, that's 96 hour work week.

you get used to working ~ 100 hour weeks pretty fast as long as you don't have a family it aint bad imo.

wake up 6 am - work til 8pm (obviously ate breakfast, lunch, dinner @ work) Even went to the gym at work

8pm - 10pm watch a movie
10pm - 12pm surf web/face til sleep.

whered u work those 9 months?

Haven't had to work much yet, just some work + school and it's not bad at all lol

However, the field I'm going into is literally my love & passion. I'll have no problem working in these fields for the rest of my life, ergo I doubt it'll seem much like "work" to me.. the only extreme times I'll have to go through will be very ephemeral and not indicative of the whole time (residency, maybe certain times in rotations or something).

The point that I'm trying to make is that it is difficult enough to maintain a family + social life + hobbie(s) on a 40 hour work week.

Many career paths do not have the option of working less than 40 hours. Going over the 40 hour mark will cause other aspects of your life to suffer.

In my opinion working so much that you don't have a life outside of work is no way to live.
