fair enough... that was worded poorly on my part... I could just never be the guy in the gym trying to get that last rep while thinking of my 11th grade english teacher who told me i could never do it, because I know that my english teacher isn't at home thinking about what a failure i am... most of the "doubters" i've come across, don't care what I do and don't spend as much time worrying about me as your doubters do about you I guess...
Generally, they're not motivation during the workout, unless they're there giving you the challenge. "You can't do that weight 4 times." "F*** you, I'll do it 6 times."
However, trust me, there are times in an intense workout where something is saying you have to push harder, you hear someone's voice saying you can't, and something fueling your drive. If you've never experienced this, you've never really worked out.
Use the doubt of people to motivate you to show them you can.
Your teacher thinks you suck at math? Let that motivate you to learn math. You won't be thinking about your teacher while you're learning, but when you're not there learning, you'll have it in the back of your mind that you should be looking to improve.
Someone says you can't run a 5k? Let that be the motivation you need to run a marathon.
