Is there any way to track how many calories are burnt out in a workout? I made a thread about this but I was wondering if you knew any.

Do you know anything about exercise induced asthma? I've been googling it and it seems a lot like what I have. Since I was like 5 I've played 2-3 sports at a time, and I NEVER got in better shape. I'd always get trouble breathing after like 10 seconds of running, and it's still exactly the same.... should I see my doctor about it?

Just ordered P90X with everything it involves. (Chin-up bar, resistance bands and free weights that I mostly already had back home)

I wanted to know, even though the program is pretty complete, would you have any advice to give me in order to lose weight efficiently and get some muscle tone aswell. (mostly nutrition wise)

Thanks

Do you think that AAS are overhyped by the media and everything?

Are they that harmful to the body ?

Anabolic Androgenic Steroids are indeed harmful to the body, but not in the same way the media portrays.

Here is a breakdown:

If taken PROPERLY and under the guide of a physician, if you are UNDER 40 years old, you stand to do the following:

1. Decrease natural test production
2. Increase risk of certain types of cancer
3. Increase risk of certain types of disease
4. Increase risk of bone or muscular injury*
5. Increase hostility level towards yourself and others
6. Decrease sexual desire
7. Shrink Testes
8. Premature Aging

*Injuries are often a result of overzealous efforts at the gym based on steroid use - so this factor is indirect.

I use 40 years old as a general rule. Some people can properly benefit from steroids under the guide of a doctor earlier than that (depending on your body and genetics). However, a good rule of thumb is that 40+ year old males greatly benefit from hormone replacement therapy which can include anabolics.

If you are any younger than that, I advise you stay away from them. There are always exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking AAS will only hurt you in the long term if you start early. Life is short and precious, enjoy every minute of every day and do not put yourself at any unnecessary risk for vanity.

How should I supplement with vitamin D?

Is it worth it?

YES. Vitamin D is something I highly recommend to people. It greatly aids in immune function and the metabolic process. I recommend that all males 200 lbs and less take at least 5,000 iu of vitamin d per day in addition to 15-20 minutes of direct sunlight, and a good multivitamin. If you are over 200 lbs, you can take UP to 10,000 iu per day total. I would highly recommend getting NOW! Vitamin D-3 5,000iu . They are very inexpensive and are also a very good quality.

For a "loading" phase for vitamin D-3 (if you don't get a lot of sunlight right now), you will need to superdose. Take double the above prescribed dosage per day for 1 week. After that, go down to the regular dosage. If you are under 200 lbs, take 10K iu, if u are over 200 lbs take 20k iu.

After the superdose is over and you are on regular maintenance, do not overtake d-3. Keep the levels to the recommended.

This all depends on your body's metabolism, your heartrate from the workout, the resistance you use, etc.

A general rule of thumb is that a 150 lb man burns approximately 500 calories per hour doing any kind of intense physical activity. (intense strength training with few breaks between sets, good steady pace cardio, etc)

If you are doing EXTREMELY intense physical activity, a 150lb man can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour (balls to the wall strength training with maxouts and no more than 10 seconds rest between sets or HIIT cardio, etc.)

Light activity like casual weight lifting (with a lot of breaks inbetween) generally burns about 250 cal per hour for the 150lb man.

Other than that, there really isn't a way to SPECIFICALLY calculate how many calories you burn...just a general idea.

Yes definitely see a doctor about it. However, a good product called vasopro exists that will actually help you a lot. It's ephedrine based with guaifenesin (an expectorant) which actually helps open your airways and thwart asthma during activity.

See a doctor anyway, but that product is OTC and can help you.

There are a few reasons for this.

First off, what is your height/weight/bf% ?

If you are of a high % of bodyfat you will sweat more than your leaner counter-parts as a general rule.

However, profuse sweating for an average person could be a build up of toxicities in the body, increased BMR (not a bad thing), or a sweat gland problem.

There are a few solutions to this problem:

1. Try using extra strength antiperspirant like Mitchum
2. Try isolating things out of your diet (start with removing gluten, sugar, nut products, shellfish, dairy, and soy). If problem persists let me know and we can try to isolate the diet further. At least 1 of those items, however, are generally to blame.
3. If you don't already, try to eat more clean. No fast foods, frozen foods, canned foods, processed foods. Stick to whole foods, prepared at home, with proper levels of fat/protein/carbs as well as sodium.
4. If all of the above fails, and you feel that your sweating is unreasonable, please see a physician for possible medical treatment.

Also one question, do you take any supplements? if so, what are they? Stimulants can cause profuse sweating as well as PH's.

I would not recommend p90x unless you have virtually no other options and absolutely no access to a gym.

Their diet plan is cockeyed and generally insufficient for most males.

The workouts are mostly bodyweight strength routines with some DB exercises, but overall it's glorified cardio with a little resistance training.

I always highly recommend a good gym routine with a plethora of exercises using differing resistance formats with a good solid alternating diet for maximum gains and fat loss.
