Yeah it really depends on how you're doing them.. but with perfect form and tempo, and making sure your rotator cuff(s) isn't weak, you can fly heavier dbs. At a certain point I was using 70 lbs dumbbells for flyes, but that was only because my shoulders could handle it (consequently, my middle and rear deltoids were MUCH weaker back then, so my primary focus since has been total symmetry.)

70s with good form is pretty impressive! how much do you bend at the elbows if you do at all? cause I know some people do them almost like a benchpress which is stupid imo.

Can do the 70s as well on incline db flys
then I recently switched to twisting them inward at the top of the motion to stimulate my chest more.. can't do as much weight :(

TBH i don't go above 55 LBS now, I get greater results with higher reps on flyes. I think I could only rep like 8 with the 70s back then. My form has also improved over time, but I know it was decent back then. And yes, never wanna lock out your elbows at the top, or even really lose the same amount of bend as at the bottom of the movement.

Damn still impressive tho. Keep at it and your chest will be very massive.

My chest will be massive from flys? You really think they help that much?

I think you misunderstood me. If you can fly 70s on incline, you are on the right track (ie your shoulders/rotator cuffs will be able to support heavy benching.).. That's NOT saying Flying 70 lbs dbs will get you a massive chest. I stated earlier that my chest was founded upon heavy benching and flyes with a variety of weights/angles. Hope that helps.. ;)

What is your reasoning for not going for heavier weight on isolations? Assuming good form etc

it all depends on what your goal is, lets say you're looking to build muscle mass and definition you should go for isolation.. but if you're going for speed/explosiveness/overall body strength go for big exercices.

@edit: didnt see the "heavy" isolation ><
