Jsp trade is international as you can sell a looted item from a chest on Europe and reciece in game gold as payment on USwest.
Keys bought from vendors are current assets as they will be used within a year since ladder seasons last 6 months. Keys found in sanctuary via looting have a cost of time spent looting, and depreciation of other assets in acquiring the keys (gold spent on repairing durability on your weapon, for example)
This can all be avoiding by playing as the Assassin.
There is also a potential big problem in the early game when cash flow is extremely low. If you ran into a locked chest in the blood moor you wouldn't be able to afford to unlock it. You can either sell your starting assets and hope it was worthwhile investment, or you can get a small loan of 1 gold to afford a key. Since you can't get decimal values of gold and assuming the loan has interest you'd have to round up to the nearest 1 gold for interest repayment on the loan. All of a sudden you are paying 200% interest in your gold loan
100% interest
