srs question: this Crossfit pullup, aka the Floppy Salmon Swimming Upstream pullup, is there any benefit to it?

Is it useful for anything, outside of being able to say, "I can do 100 Floppy Salmon pullups"?

You have no evidence for any of those statements you're just using them because they're the go to arguments against crossfit. They're false by the way

There is absolutely no use for fish pullups in any training regimen whatsoever. Whatever your goals may be, there is a more efficient alternative. Even getting better at doing fish pullups (apart from mastering the technique) is better accomplished by overloading with weights.

Defending crossfit is fine, because contrarily to average 2016 gym bro's beliefs, crossfit is a great way to get stronger and in better shape overall,
but defending the few stupid parts of this training method that make people think this way is just being a dumbfuck.
And counter productive.

A majority of ex pro/semi-pro football players ARE WRESTLERS, and they even say wrestling training is far worse than their football training. I'm not sure how this discussion has anything to do with crossfit though.

Sweet.. One of the dumbest things I've read in this sf in a while. Where are you getting these statistics? Cuz they're ridiculous.

Pro wrestling is a choreographed acrobat show, it's not a sport. To compare it to a sport or athletes in a sport would be apples to oranges. They have completely different goals and training styles than an NFL athlete would. Also, to say pro wrestlers are the best athletes on the planet is a little silly. While a lot of them are really good athletes, it doesn't mean they're all the greatest athletes on the planet.

as far as i've seen the bad name comes from the culture of crossfit. personally i've heard from two people who have gone to crossfit gyms about people pushing their limits way too hard, and others encouraging the behavior. i pointed them in the way of retro fitness real quick.

crossfit injuries seem to be very common, probably because of this. there's plenty of youtube videos of people in crossfit gyms struggling to lift a weight with absolutely horrible form while others cheer them on. another great example of this is the reebok crossfit games.

i'm sure this crazy behavior isn't at every gym, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with any of the workouts (other than the quoted one below), so long as you do them safely with proper form. from what i can see though, it's prevalent enough to make the bad name hard-earned.

Spot on here, the main complaint with Crossfit is the variety of authenticity and programs available. You could get an absolutely phenomenal instructor at one gym while another has someone who did a 6 week certification program with no prior resume. The programs for the most part are geared towards complete muscle failure, however poor form combined with advanced exercises make it much easier for intermediate and newer members to hurt themselves since everyone does the workout/cycle. I'll try to find the article but there is a relatively high percentage chance of injury with crossfit.

People hate because people hate.

Will crossfit make you a better athlete vs straight weight lifting- yea most likely.
Will it put you at a greater injury risk- yea most likely. I mean that is probably true of anything where you are comparing exertion vs time constraints.

Can you do crossfit style exercises and find success? Yea, sure.

It's all what you want to do. If people have sticks up their asses about form, just do standard pull ups instead of kipping pullups.
Let someone else blow out their acls on a clean while you do it the right way. You can still do crossfit style workouts.

It's all what you want.
I loved calisthenics for a while. People hate it. Green jacket gold jacket who gives a crap.

The important thing is doing vs not doing.

There are shredded people out there that purely do jiu-jitsu with no lifting. There's shredded people who only climb mountains. Gymnasts are more cut than 80% of this forum. They still get made fun of.

It's just like the debates to split chest and Tris or bis and back or legs and deadlift or whatever. Who's got time for that. Just do it.

And just bc you enjoy some crossfit doesn't mean you have to subscribe to the "crossfit is my life" game.
Do whatever the hell you want. People are gonna hate no matter what.

Insert Shia lebeauf just do it video.

And the ducks suck. Worst hockey team I've ever seen. If you can even call them that.
