Great points

Full body tightness and keeping core tight

that should go for most exercises

even when doing bench

full body tightness + keeping core tight

that's the same thing I follow when stuffing your mother

thanks guy, I just hit 240 for 3 sets of 5 today. Weights still moving up. Although I do have to about 8 - 10 min break between squat sets as Rippetoe recommends. Probably another 10 pounds and need to do a deload on squat.

my deadlifts are moving up at lightning speed though, 10 pounds per deadlift workout (5 pound on average, since deadlift is every other workout). Already at 285 for 1 set of 5, and these doesn't feel too hard yet. Started with with only 135 1x5 8 weeks ago. I can see 3 plates 1x5 pretty soon.

bench is moving up linearly as well with no slow downs so far. started witn 85 for 3 sets of 5, just hit 155 for 3 sets of 5 today after 8 weeks. Strictly being adding 5 pounds to bench per workout.

Overhead pressed stalled at 115 on my 2nd set of 5 last week. So I deloaded to 100. Did 105 on monday, so I'm back to 110 on this Friday. These are my toughest lifts so far, but it's expected to stall the earliest on OHP.

god damn, 8-10 minute break between sets...i would hate to be the guy that's waiting. especially at my shitty gym which only has one squat rack.

I don't need to worry about that. People here are too occupied with ez-curl bars and dumbells, usually at least 6 out of 12 of the racks are empty. Thats the standard rest time between sets if you are strength training anyway. If you can rest less than 5 minutes and still complete your set of 5, then the weights aren't heavy enough.

/edit: I'm planning on building a powerlifter's dream gym in my garage soon.

No.

Most powerlifters use 3-5 minutes as it builds your conditioning needed when competing.

Didn't know power lifters needed conditioning. Their rest period between lifts at competition are usually well over 15 to 30 min waiting for other competitors. I've seen plifters rest for 10 - 15 min regularly between heavy sets of 2 or 3.

I'll go with rip's recommendation of 8-10 min if needed for squats. His book and videos taught me to lift with good form and amazing progress, I'll trust him still.

if you routine indicates taking 10 minute rests, do it

youre assuming this is the standard resting time for strength routines, which it is not

thats all, i dont think anybody is saying that 10 minutes is bad

Who's stronger?

Dan Green or an ant?

Now who's stronger pound for pound?

Now ask yourself how long Dan Greens rest times are.

Divide by an ants rest time.

Now you have the 2 strongest creatures average rest time pound for pound and total strength
