I work full time with 1 overtime shift a pay usually so 46 hour weeks?

Working 12's doesn't make it so bad, also I have a fucking easy job.

we're not lazy...we just don't enjoy wasting our lives away in jobs we hate. people who love what they do don't call their jobs "work." but how many of us actually get lucky enough to do what we love?

I agree with everything but the bolded. Unless you have unrealistic expectations of "doing what you love" such as a movie/music producer or professional gamer, it is relatively easy to get to a job that you love or at least like. Now a days money is just thrown at you to attend college and even banks are throwing loans at people to start their own business. You obviously have to put some work in, whether its into your education or time, but there are a lot of opportunities.

there was a time where i had 4 jobs on top of my master's courses, i was easily reaching 100 hours of work per week, it was fucking hell
but i had to do it to feed myself and my sister & brother, also pay for my gas and their transportation and food... you do what's necessary even when it sucks

funny thing is my life isnt going to get much better now that im done with my master in finance. Looking for a position in investment banking, and as a first-year analyst you are basically a little slave doing financial modeling all day/night

thinking about this issue makes me mad, i just try to forget about it. working my life away for a shit sub 100k salary, it's not a nice perspective

The ridiculous expectations people have these days makes me laugh.

The people who run the world didn't start out on a 100k/year job.

Cars, boats , and all that shit don't interest me. I don't like spending lots of money. I wouldn't work for more than 40 hours a week, unless I genuinely enjoy what I am doing and at that point it isn't even work.

Even a 40 hour work week is for suckers

I'd rather not work and suicide at 65, having lived 3x as long as the average person (In terms of time spent doing what I really want to do) than be some old fuck's slave for 65 years just to die comfortably in 10 more years.

Work is a scam unless you're doing what you love

Just doing the math:

Every day you get 24 hours

24 - 8 for sleep
16 - 1 for cooking / hygiene
15 - 1.5 for daily commute
13.5 - 8 for work

That's 24 - 18.5 before you even GET to enjoy time to yourself, this totally excludes any responsibility outside of your job.

5.5 hours every day at best, assuming your life is totally responsibility free. Most people get nothing.

Compare that to working only what's required to live

24 - 8 for sleep
16- 1 for cooking / hygiene
15 - 1.5 for daily commute
13.5 - 4 for work

That's only 24 - 14.5 instead, giving you 4 extra hours to do whatever you like with (Essentially giving you two lifetimes, since living is really only measured by doing what you love)

It's a no brainer to me, I mean yeah you have to live with less. You won't be partying every week end, you won't have a ton of extra cash to spend on some bitch that wants diamonds, but who wants to spend money on that shit, anyway?

I've always had extras for hobbies and worthwhile things that aren't insanely expensive / stupid to be spending money on.

and I don't care how much you think you lose independence by not working 40+ hours and having a lot of money. Trust me when I tell you that there is no pain that hits harder than realizing you've been giving your life up for some corporate machine that couldn't give a fuck about you.

The key to living a good life is taking account all of the blood suckers that exist in your daily life (These are things like work / girlfriend, etc.)

If you are living with someone, ask yourself honestly if they are even worth it. How much does your bitch suck out of you on a daily basis? When you come home from work, does she ambush you and want to talk about some stupid bull shit that consumes 40 minutes of your time? That's gay, tell her to stop it. Everyone has tons of problems like these that are leeching time / quality of life from them every single day.

and yeah don't even get me started on what I think about the current work condition in the West. Working 40+ hours is retarded, I will never do it and anyone who does should seriously consider making life choices that allow them NOT to do it, before they end up being 65 and realizing "Holy fuck, I just lost my life, now I'm old as fuck and can't get it back. The guy I worked for is now dead and nobody gives a shit about me or my hard work - all I have is this retirement money to show for it." That's a lame reality to end up in.

Your equation blows. You would need to consider all the years at 0 work for the people working 40+ hours a week that have the ability to retire. You would also need to eliminate those that retire early, or find what they love in the process of developing a career of some sort. Must also consider the life span of those that can afford healthcare, better food, gym, ect. that comes with having more money. Let's compare your lifespan to those in the ghetto and those in the middle class (this can be up to 10 years or more). Must consider the negative of losing your job (a 4 hour per day job that pays you garbage wont be maintainable for your entire life, due to your lack of healthcare ect. you will eventually get injured or sick, and without having a full time job it is easy to let you go.)

Those are just a few points as to why your logic is completely flawed. Also, I would argue that a working professional working 40+ a week probably gets closer to 6 hours of sleep a night, so add two hours there to your lazy scum 8. Oh, you could also reduce the food prep time for some of the richer, as they may not even need to do that.

it all depends on the job man
if you enjoy your job 60 hours a week is nothing, especially if your coworkers are enjoyable to be around

if a 40 hour work week is equivalent to 4 hours of free time per day, how much free time does a 60 hour work week allow? Have you actually worked a regular 60hr/week job? Care to elaborate?

I have a great job & get along with all of my co-workers. That being said I don't have any desire to be there beyond the 40 hour mark.

you can do 100k+ after 3 years if you play your cards right
the salary is good, you work like a slave for it though... its not a long term thing

care to list some details?

One way is to get a 4 year engineering degree, and land a job in San Jose making 100k a few years out of college. Then you get to spend 4 hours/day for your commute. No thank you.
