Why do people love Quest Bars so much? You do realize that the nutritional label is too good to be true, right?

Quest makes their protein bars with isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMOs) aka the "fiber" in the bars. They don't factor in the calories in IMOs which is roughly ~2kcals/gram. Shocking isn't it? Quest Bars don't ACTUALLY have 20g of fiber in them!

Next, we see monk fruit in it (lo han guo I believe which is a chinese monk fruit which is essentially stevia/splenda). I'm not too familiar with this sweetener which is what really concerns me. I haven't been able to find good research on it yet.

Generally if you think "this is too good to be true" it is.

Wrong.

They dont count fiber calories on the label.

Quest explained it somewhere.

Exactly my point. isomalto-oligosaccharides aren't exactly fiber... just long chain sugar molecules. They still have calories in them and should actually count on the label but they AREN'T counted because they're technically considered "fibers".

It's a mix between fiber and a sugar... it doesn't have 4kcals/gram like a normal sugar but it still has kcals.

Don't get me wrong... they're still good protein bars but they're not the powerhouse they pretend to be. I'm still skeptical of the monk fruit sweetener they use as I haven't seen any research on it yet and if it was THAT good then everyone would be using it.

edit/ NEVER accept something a company says about it's product as fact. "Dietary Supplements" are not regulated by the FDA and can pretty much say ANYTHING they want within reason. Diet pills claim to make you lose 100 pounds in 5 weeks. We KNOW this isn't true but yet they can still say it. I know for a fact that IMOs have calories that count as they change your blood sugar level just like carbohydrates do.

It's not bad, and actually pretty smart to do what they do. However, it makes me mad that they can make these insane claims and get away with it. I'd eat Quest Bars even if they fixed the labels and were 100% accurate. Some people eat them strictly for the large "fiber" content though so they'd lose some of their consumer base.

2$ a bar isn't to bad when you pay like 1$ for a Greek yogurt with half the macros. But I'd still prefer cheaper :(

Wtf kinda yogurt do you eat? I eat Fage 0%

https://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/fage/total-0%25-greek-yogurt

One serving is 130kcal/23g protein, I usually mix a scoop of whey into it and its like 250/47.
