And this is my proof that squats & deadlifts > sit ups and endless crunches for ab definition. His bodyfat didnt go down much but the ab definition is still there, from sheer ab size.

Thanks burns and yeah I didn't do any ab work at all in the past like 3 months and before that I only did ab ripper x like once lol. I'd say it's mostly due to my dls though as I missed leg day kinda frequently :wallbash:

Better?

Or just ample for somebody not worried about ab definition too much?

I think weighted ab exercises> squats & deadlifts for ab definition personally.

Well I see it as being better since you actually don't need to spend any time working on your abs themselves to get definition since the bigger lifts will work them anyway. I personally didn't bother doing any ab work since I figured it was already summer time anyway so was to late to get a "beach body" so said f it but then I still got some decent abs anyway. Now maybe if I didn't miss leg day so much and did my squats they would be more defined than they are but oh well.

I would rank it with the "no direct arm work required for big arms" theory.

There's a lot of people who would say otherwise lol.

Nah you need a dedicated arm day imo. I missed arm day more than any other day so my arms seem to be lacking some. I see what you're saying but in this case even though I didn't isolate the muscle I got some nice results with no effort for it which is a win. Not saying I got better results doing this than with weighted ab workouts just that I got results without even trying. Hopefully whenever I cut some bf% you can see them a lot more :)

Heavily weighted ab exercises are like squats or deadlifts except you put in alot of direct effort on your abs to work different parts at a time.

I really prefer standing military press, squats, front squats and deadlifts. Those get you big abs. Big abs = visible with more bodyfat.

I've never had sore abs from any exercise that hits abs via synergy, like squats etc.

Heavy weighted direct ab exercises never fail to make me sore.

Then it means you can probably add some weight to your compounds. My core is always sore after bent over rows or compounds like that.

My core isn't the limiting factor for my compounds.
