It helps go deep and break out of the bottom. If you can get over the scariness of it, it's a good technique (known as bouncing out of the hole). Oly athletes do it.

Personally, I'll never bounce out of the hole. I like going down slowly and blasting upwards. :P

it's a good technique for lifting more, but not really for training the muscle

It's still as good because you generally go deeper and push more weight that way, therefore overloading the muscles more.

EDIT: Sort of.

yeah but the eccentric part of the lift is important and i think you know this

having a little more concentric isnt the same as having a lot more of eccentric

You realize some of the best athletes, and the strongest enforce eccentric-less lifts, right? When you DL, you should generally be DLing without an eccentric portion. The same is said for Pendlay Rows.

to increase rep max, but not to increase muscle stimulation/hypertrophy

He said training the muscle, which I assume would mean strength. The eccentric portion of a lift causes too much tissue damage, which is why people choose to exclude it. As for DLs, doing it eccentric-less reduces the risk of injury.

When I speak, I speak in terms of strength, never in terms of hypertrophy unless stated otherwise.

EDIT: Which is why I would refer to Pendlay Rows as an example, and not Yates rows.

Olympic athletes may want to risk their joints in order to achieve a new record. Personally, I prefer to perform safely.

Very good lift, Balla, gz

Uhh, what? It's not like your legs break because you bounce out of the hole. If you're flexible, you're fine.

Do you even break parallel on your squats? (Serious question)

Of course I do. And also I know that going very deep without really controlling the movement can end up in your knees getting completely fucked up.
