this applies to rugby too, but any time your toes are angled out you are more prone to a collapsed ankle, where the arch in your foot flattens out. this by itself isnt a problem while you're just standing there but as soon as you start involving loads like a barbell or a ruck, you expose the knee of that leg with the collapsed arch to mcl/acl/meniscus stress. too much stress or repeated stress can easily lead to a tear in one or all of those ligaments (theyre connected to some degree by the joint capsule)

Key words here. I point my toes out and have analyzed my form via video meni meni times. My arches do not collapse and my knees do not cave. So, I don't think this is a must for everyone.

I would agree that most people would have issues though.

And I'm no peasant, do u think I go into rucks? Pls im a center ain't no body got time for that

I am srs tho I'm willing to learn

LOL figures, but yeah you don't need to get out your square and set your feet 100 percent perpendicular before you squat and you can even have some angle to your feet as long as you are able to.open your hips enough to compensate, the goal is to avoid valgus knee force or movement of your knees towards each other because this loaded position is what causes acl mcl meniscus damage over time or with high enough loads. YouTube kelly starrett squat and just browse through his videos, the idea is easier to understand d with visuals

ive always said its a non-issue IF you have the hip mobility but most dont. post vid pls you might be surprised what can qualify as imbalanced valgus force
