right, with that mentality you never will.

I dont think like that when lifting, i just don't see it happening. I would love nothing more than to put up monster numbers.

I think it's not about the mentality we have about this. Almost everybody in this forum would be fooling himself if he tought that he would eventually be able to squat or deadlift as heavy as Boxxa or Burns. It's just to accept the truth, lol

Exactly, some of us just acknowledge that we have limits that will be reached before those massive numbers.

Nah, accepting that means that you've already given up on that quest. Do you think Boxa or Burns acquired their numbers in 2-3 years? Hell no. Lifting isn't something you become good at in a few months, or even a few years. It takes a LONGG time. As for hitting their numbers, that's not what matters. When you compare your strength, you compare it to people in YOUR weight class. I'm 5'9, so the potential for me is lower than for Boxa or Burns. Does that mean I'm weaker? Overall, yes, but in respect to bodyweight relevance, I can be just as strong, or stronger.

LOL first you're telling me that I've just given up being that strong and then you accept that you will never either.

I'ts not giving up. I can learn and try to speak a better English day by day, and try to do so, but it's not a question of giving up if I think "I will never speak English like a native speaker would".

It's neither a matter of giving up if I think that I'm not going to be as strong as Burns, and it would not be if he thought that he wouldn't probably be able to win Mr. Olympia.

I don't give up. If I did, I wouldnt train, and yet I keep training and pushing my limits. But I know there are things which are either impossible for me to reach or that would take so much effort from me to get that they're not worth.

Oh my... I'll attribute you misunderstanding my previous point to English not being your first language.

Strength is measured both overall and relative to your weight. Do I need to stress relative strength more?

Burns' numbers were good, yes, but they weren't outstanding when put up against other powerlifters in his weight class.

EDIT: "or that would take so much effort from me tog et that they're not worth."

So you've given up then, yes? You CAN become extremely strong, you just refuse to.

The thing is both penguin and I were speaking about lifting as much as Burns objectively, and not in ratio with our weight/height. We weren't speaking about relative strength.

And thanks for your being so... condescending, but you can spare me your kindness.

Ok, let's say that I'm wasting my potential since I'm not training to death to be a strongman like Burns. Why are you here posting in a forum, wasting yours?

We don't have to push ourselves that hard if that is not out objective.

Wasting my time here? Lifting takes an hour or so at best. I train full body 6x/week, with added bodyweight stuff at night, which is more than most people here can say. I'm constantly figuring out ways to better myself when it comes to lifting. Penguin said he wanted to push monster numbers. People train for 10, 15, even 20 years to reach those monster numbers. Look up Jamie Lewis. I would love to see anyone call him weak. Relative strength is a form of strength, regardless. When you say you can't be as strong as them, you're misleading yourself. A good bit of people in H&F are 6'0+, so their potential is tremendous.

I'm 6 myself, and I don't think I'm wasting my potential. I'm not that worried about training because I know that I'm most unlikely to make a living of it when older, so why bother? I'd rather spend more time studying, which will help me get abetter job in my future.

The thing is you want to push yourself to your very limit, and I think that's great, laudable and praiseworthy, but not everyone of us should be aiming for the same.

I'm 6, I have a good physique, pretty decent genetics, and all, and I wouldn't be deceiving myself if I told me "you don't have the potential to be a Mr. Olympia" for example. We know our limits. And we don't waste our time if we don't want to reach them, let alone trespass them.

If you had a 10 inches dick would you be wasting your potential if you didn't become a porn actor?
