Tanning in general is bad for your body.
Your body needs about 30-45 mins of direct sunlight every day for optimal vitamin D production...however....
excessive tanning for the sake of tanning will deteriorate your skin, lead to skin cancer, start premature aging, and also dehydrate you.
Best to avoid tanning for the sake of vanity - stick to minimal sun exposure (no more than an hour a day without sunscreen/sunblock) for vitamin D only
