That's very interesting. I was never really sure how that worked. The first I ever thought about it was when I watched a short documentary thing on Paul and Craig Pumphrey ("human wrecking balls") which talked about some process where their bones adapted to the stress they put themselves through.

One last question on the jump squats as well if you don't mind. Would resistance bands be harmful, or is it just that any type of loading at all is detrimental to the body?

squats are fine with ANY resistance...as long as you aren't jumping or throwing the weight up and letting it drop on your shoulders/back....so bands would be fine

Hey SKC - The past month, I've gained roughly 5 pounds, part of which due to your help.  When I get really sick, I don't eat much for obvious reasons like every other person.

I have a sore throat right now, plus two large ulcers on the left side of my mouth that are some of the most painful things I've ever had.  I haven't been eating my norm lately.

Two part question(s) I suppose,

1.  Are there any cure or ways to increase healing time to the ulcers?

2.  What foods should I eat when these things happen (A sore throat + ulcers = miserable days)?

healing time for anything internal in the body requires immune system enhancement. Try megadosing with vitamin C, antioxidants, and immune supplements as well as multivitamins.

Avoid citrus and acidic foods/beverages for the ulcers...this will make them worse.

As for the foods to eat in that condition here is the best:

1. homemade chicken soup with extra chicken and soft veggies - sodium is fine for you now as the salt will help both the throat and ulcers.

2. hot tea (drink this shit all day) - you can add protein powder to it if you want to keep your protein content up.

3. pasta with olive oil (easy going down, tastes good, neutral ph level)

those 3 things are ALL you need to ride out those problems.

my father and i are in a argument and we need professional advice.

first off, my dad says more reps less weight = strength, whilst i was tryna say more weight less reps = strength, which is correct?

secondly, is it ok to do abs everyday? if not when?

Hello -

First of all...the heavier the weight (regardless of reps) = more strength.

A person who can deadlift 405 lbs for 1 rep is stronger than someone who can lift 315 lbs for 10 reps, but can not lift 405 lbs for 1 rep.

The definition of strength in this case is the ability to lift the heaviest amount of weight for ONE rep.

As far as exercise for BUILDING strength goes....yes, lower reps with higher weight is always the way to go.

As far as abs go - do NOT train them every day. the maximum would be Every-Other-Day. I recommend 3x a week.

Hey SKCRaynor.

This is a question isn't a body building or sculpting question but more of a fat burning question.
Unlike most people here I am a fat bastard. :)

I am looking to trim down for my upcoming wedding, so I started a low-fat diet and exercising 3 times a week. I usually swim for half an hour and do some kind of cardio machine for another half an hour. Usually an elliptical.
When I started my diet I was around 230lbs. It has been almost 2 months and I am seeing success with a loss of 15lbs, but the success is only limited to the scale. I still look exactly the same. :S

My question is, how many lbs do I have to lose before I start losing my belly and love handles?

depends on if you CAN do 450 or not. Chances are if you can do 315 for 20 reps, you can do 405 for 8-12 reps. But it still all comes down to 1 rep maxes
