It isn't a stimulant but it deals with ATP production. It's been a while since I had a&p 1 when I learned about it so I can't go more in depth than that atm but that's what it does. I even remember the pic in the book of a sprinter getting energy from creatine whereas a marathoner wouldn't benefit.
No doubt it does, I just took energy the wrong way since you said pre-workouts before that. Energy for the muscles, but not so-much "energy" for the mind, like a redbull
