I already drink like that naturally - other than the points about before eating and shower. Although I suppose the shower one comes inherently, as they'd be in the morning or after gym.

I sleep easier if I drink before bed, I feel refreshed if I drink when I wake up and drink throughout the day as I need it. There's really no need to over think this.

those are lol but drinking water right away after waking is good because you will be dehydrated when you wake up and rehydrating first thing will help you feel better, especially if you do physical activity shortly after getting up

drinking water before meals helps fill you so you don't eat as much (for all those fatties)

drinking before bed helps maintain hydration through the first half of your sleep and keeps you from being quite so dehydrated first thing in the morning

For reference, I lose 2 lbs every night. That's a litre of water.

Would much of that be carbon being exhaled?

this is actually true to an extent, but its mostly water vapor that is being lost that causes the loss of weight.

I've never even thought of losing carbon, but I guess it makes sense.

The loss of weight is mostly water vapour though, hence the dehydration in the morning. I'm always dehydrated in the morning. It's pretty annoying.

I sometimes wake up with cotton mouth in the middle of the night, which is even more annoying.
