I may partially understand you, as I believe you have discernible goals (you competed, and from my understanding, injuries allowing, will continue to do so?). It is those without discernible goals that I am trying to understand.
I don't have to compete to make myself better. I enjoy competing because It's an additional challenge but as I am injured I have other goals that aren't lifting numbers related.
Am I getting better when reaching my goals? Yup
Do you want to know why I chose those goals? Because I see them as personal improvements of my physical and mental health therefore making me a better version of myself.
