Not sure if HnF is aware but 99% of  people around me get this wrong, even the so called "fashion gurus" who always buy the latest Hermes, LV, Gucci, Versace etc...

DO NOT BUTTON THE BOTTOM BUTTON ON A TWO BUTTON SUIT.

it looks silly and makes you look like you've never worn a suit before.

Suits are meant to look like this:

And literally everyone, look at Suits (especially Harvey but it applies to Mike, Louis and every one else in the show)

never wore a suit, so i didnt know this. why do they have two buttons if you're not supposed to button it? aren't spare buttons usually on the inside where they're not visible?

I'm not quite sure but one of the reasons I heard was a king in England (think it was Edward) was so fat that he could only button the top button, and not the bottom button. Since those days its just stuck.

Having both buttons buttoned in a two button suit is a major taboo. As far three button suits I think its a bit rounder around the edges, some will do the top two buttons and leave the bottom one undone, while others will only button the top one, and not the bottom two.

I first learned this a couple years ago when looking at suits with my dad (he's an expert on tailored suits) and told me never to button the bottom button. If you look watch Suits, look at David Beckham, James Bond, or pretty much any fashion house or just a google image search of 'suit' you'll see only the top button done.

Maybe its just there so fancy people can spot the not so fancy people

For 3 buttons, start at the top. top button sometimes, middle button always, bottom button never. Sometimes always never rule.

I stand corrected on the three button suit, I got the top and middle button mixed up. Its either the top two, or its just the middle button. Here's a rule of thumb to make it easier to remember: "sometimes, always, never". (from top to bottom)

buttoning suits is sort of similar socks in sandals kind of thing.

if i ever buy a suit, i'll buy a 1-button suit. if i buy a 2-button suit, i'm cutting off the bottom button lol.

i'm reading up about suits. i remember watching tv shows / movies where people would constantly button/unbutton their suit every time they sit down / stand up. i thought it was some silly attention-whoring idea that the advertisers/sponsors wanted to include to call attention to their expensive clothes. but now i think it's the style to do that?

it is more comfortable to leave your jacket completely unbuttoned while sitting down, and whilst sitting you are "allowed" to have your jacket open, however when you are standing/walking, you "can't" have your jacket open, you need to button it (and as I've pointed out, only the top on a 2 button and sometimes, always, never on a 3 button)

why would you cut off the bottom button ? IMO even if not for the general rule, I still love the look of a properly worn suit.

habit. friend used to be OCD where every button must be buttoned. so now i always button something if it has a button. solution is to remove any button that shouldnt be buttoned.

Vouch. Easily the most handsome fucker on the planet. The fact that he wears ~ $10K masterfully tailored suits by Tom Ford is a huge bonus

Yeah I bought it a little on the smaller side, since I'm planning to drop some weight post winter hibernation.

To me the sleeves feel a good length, but in that pic they do look long don't they.. ha
