Why do you need to do them so often? Every artical I see they only do them 1-3 times a week. And you dont do 200 reps on other muscles, what makes them so much better than other body parts?
Edit:
Anddddddddd, what obliques excerises do you recommend?
hey there - glad you asked!
first of all, there is a long and short answer for this:
short answer - abs are the core of the body and along with calves and forearms are stubborn to grow. They require massive stimulation to see any tangible gains compared to other major muscle groups like chest/back/etc.
long answer - abs work as stabilizers for all other muscle groups of the body. Abs (just like calves) are used with virtually every step or action we make. Because of this, they have a natural resistance against growing and undertaking exceptional stress. As a result, these muscles need absolutely focused attention to see dramatic, fast, solid gains. A great example would be bodybuilders like Jay Cutler and Markus Ruhl. They have gigantic, well developed, symmetrical abs which are primarily from entire 30-60 minute workouts (sometimes even a seperate 60 minute pillates session to focus on further abs). These ab workouts are conducted 4-6 times a week!
as far as obliques go - the three best exercises are as follows - standing hip flex with cable machine (stand up straight, grab a low handle from the cable machine, load a little weight - with the handle at your side bend your torso shoulder towards the floor and come back slowly)
also, if available, there is a machine by hammer strength specifically for obliques that allows u to make a twisting motion while on your knees...very good machine. If this is not available - weighted broomhandle twists are fantastic (they make weighted sticks - an olympic bar works also - mount it on your back like you're going to do squats....then twist side to side)
lastly, alternating crunches to the left and right (just like alternating leg raises) will assist in developing fantastic obliques!
