So are hormonal factors in concurrence with metabolic fatigue more important than mechanical tension?

If so, does that clarify an importance for a pretty decently sized TUT?

indeed. mechanical tension is useful if you want to develop more mechanical tension (MU patterning, maximum ATPase activity, etc) but tbh maximal efforts dont really accumulate any metabolites, the contractions dont take place for long enough to do so... its honestly mostly a neurological thing. you need to stimulate massive lactate production and challenge the cellular environment, thats where a lot of the signalling cascades for adaptation begin.

The article on which I wrote my last metaanalysis for the blog. Thought it'd be interesting here

Also, me thinks when I get a few minutes of free time I'm gonna do a nice write up on ROS (reactive oxygen species) and mitohormesis.. the good and bad, exercise implications, opinions, etc.

Nutrition In Sport

this is a decently long book (600+ pages) but it covers a lot and is extremely informative. Great read. If nothing else, browse through it and just read certain sections. Just trying to spread knowledge tbh

Then just a few other random studies:

"Obesity as a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease: the role of adipocytokines."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24553879

" Interestingly, extensive research on the central effects of leptin in Alzheimer's disease-transgenic mice has demonstrated
its capacity to enhance synaptic plasticity and strength, as well as to prevent beta-amyloid deposition and tau phosphorylation."
Just pointing this out to show how extensive/pleiotropic of a hormone/adipokine Leptin really is. Plus the fact that the obese will be leptin resistant and thus the above positive modulations would be unable to manifest.

"Early Life Adversity Is Associated With Elevated Levels of Circulating Leptin, Irisin, and Decreased Levels of Adiponectin in Midlife Adults."

Now? The statistics they use are a little... Lenient, in some graphs, but pretty interesting still.
