I never noticed this Raynor guy was such a beast.. I like the entire lifting without counting idea though, makes sense.

I've been doin 5 sets of 10 reps.. 10 being at about my failure (no spotter can't take the chance :(.. )

I usually try and make sure I get 10 reps with every set and no less, but normally at the end I come up with 8 on the last 2 sets.

Hey there....this sort of thing has been answered dozens of times in this thread.

It all comes down to proper diet (eating enough food and frequently enough) - as well as exercising frequently and properly.

I really suggest you flip through the pages of this thread or use the search feature - but until then I will point you in the right direction:


1. Exercises - stick to core exercises for each muscle group (like bench press, dead lift, military press, squats, preacher curls, dips, skullcrushers, hammer curls, hanging leg raises, etc.)

2. Exercise at least 1 and 1/2 hours each day 5 days a week focusing on ONE major muscle group per day. Work out hard and focus on the pump.

3. Eat every 3 hours. Eat at least 35-40g protein per meal, with lots of complex carbs and good fats.

4. Take cytogainer if you are a hardgainer (6'1" 160 sounds like it)

5. Take creatine monohydrate (either ethyl ester or micronized) try optimum brand.

that is how I feel most of the time because i tell myself if I cant do say 6x 275 on bench that is horrible considering my max and it kinda sets grounds for the minimum i must accomplish, which more often then not is not the minimum I can accomplish but the maximum.
But yeah i normally go to failure on the last 2 sets

Hey...I do not have a camcorder - just a cell phone with video recording capibility. I can't upload the video to youtube (not an iphone or anything like that, just a plain cheap LG flip phone)

I also have been way too concerned with life in general to be focusing too much on myself (including new pics, videos, etc.)

However, in time when things settle down, I plan on buying a Flip (anyone know if these are good?) and having some people video record my 1-2 rep maxes. Then I am going to start making instructional videos and youtubing them. But as of right now, I simply do not have the time.

You are pretty right. I managed 425 x 1 and failed on the 2nd rep. I haven't been able to dedicate myself enough to push my maxes up higher. however my bodyweight isn't much different...I'm idling right now at about 171.5

Try out a few weeks of no counting...then go back to counting and see how much improvement you see in the numbers. ;-)

Although it might seem that setting a high goal can help you accomplish more - this is only the case when you are already counting reps. If you eliminate rep counting all togther and focus every ounce of your energy on getting that weight up and maintaining proper form (mind discipline is very important here) - you will definitely do more reps and heavier weight than if you count and pay attention to how much your lifting and for how many reps. The more mind, the more matter ;-)

ah...that in and of itself is hindering your full potential. get a partner or spotter and you will also see dramatic gains past what you can accomplish on your own.

yes, I regularly check my BF with calipers (once every 2 weeks)

Right now I am idling at approx 9% bf.

During cutting, I drop as low at 5% bf.

During a hardcore powerlifting bulk I go up as high as 15% bf.
