yes they do, for example;

some criminals steal them from legitimate owners

less owners = less people to steal them from

you do realize adding more guns into a school shooting situation could make it even worse?

so you want a perfect world where everyone is protected at all times, but you're arguing for the thing that would make it as unperfect and chaotic as possible? makes no sense, but ok.

theres always a chance something bad happens any time you leave your house.. hell, there is even if you dont. more guns make it even worse.

i get the feeling ya'll just like carrying guns around to feel an illusory sense of power

Who is this "ya'll" you speak of?
I am a concealed carry permit holder. I VERY rarely carry anywhere.
Personally, I don't think it's much of a threat.
I live in a safe neighborhood. I work in a safe place, which already has armed security on site. I don't travel through any neighborhoods on my way to/from work that I would deem unsafe.
Pretty much the only time I will carry is if I'm going camping in the woods.

americans, in general.

i dont actually have a problem with what youre doing. i have a problem with grown men who feel they need to be strapped 24/7.

That's just it though, most Americans aren't gun-toting rednecks that always want to carry a firearm everywhere they go.
Most American's aren't running around screeching "BAN ALL GUNS!", either.
The majority of us fall somewhere in the sensible middle. We're just not the ones that make the news, because "Guy with common sense says guns are okay in certain circumstances" doesn't sell.

First off, most criminals obtain their firearms ILLEGALLY. Which means they don't bother with background checks, and they don't care about the gun laws barring someone from owning one. So no, gun laws DON'T make it more difficult for criminals to obtain a gun.
Second, that may be the case in muggings; a school shooting isn't a mugging. Those bad guys are coming to end your life, period. They don't want anything from you.
As for the comment about the police, that's all well and good. I'll be sure and let that policeman that follows me around 100% of the time do his job, you know, since they're available every single second of the day for every single citizen.

More strict gun laws mean less guns manufactured which means less guns in general, harder to come by legally OR illegally. Look at Australia. It's really that simple, it's just funny that Americans don't see it

youre a complete idiot and your arguments are illogical. most recent example of a mass shooting in a texas school involved a firearm obtained by the criminal from his father, who owned a legally purchased and permitted gun.

im not going to argue further because its literally no better than arguing with an antivaxxer. youve been brainwashed and even presenting legitimate facts and evidence generally serves to entrench you deeper in your beliefs.

e: i would however love to get in discord to completely deconstruct every single one of your shitty arguments without having to waste my time typing responses

So what you're saying is that he stole someone else's property? In other words, the firearm was ILLEGALLY FUCKING OBTAINED BY A CRIMINAL?!
Did the REGISTERED AND LEGAL OWNER of the firearm commit the crime? No. Someone STOLE THE GOD DAMN THING FROM HIM.

You're not going to argue further because you're, plain and simply, wrong.

I suppose we can chalk that up to a lack of life experience.

But this isn't Australia, though. The ratio of firearms to people is already 100:1. If a criminal wants a firearm they're going to get one, by any means necessary. Take the example above, the person committing the crime wasn't a gun owner. He stole the gun from a legal gun owner.
I understand that fewer guns available overall means fewer guns in the hands of criminals.
However, most gun legislation isn't an outright ban on firearms. The majority of proposals are to limit the TYPE of firearms allowed to be sold, or how much ammunition said firearm can hold. Which, in my mind, is just fine.
Who the hell needs a 30+ round mag for their handgun? The answer, nobody.
Literally the only argument is just that "It's fun to shoot". Well, at a certain point you have to say "What in the actual fuck?".
I love shooting, don't get me wrong, but I also believe it's illogical to be allowed to own whatever the hell a person would like to own just for the sake of ownership. There's a reason we're not allowed to have rocket launchers and fully automatics. They serve no practical use in hunting or even sport and are really just meant for maximum destruction.

Like I said, most of us are in favor of common sense gun legislation. Unfortunately the crazies from both sides are the only ones that ever make the news.

However if you take even your own example here, the individual that committed he crime wasn't a gun owner, correct. However, his father possessed a legal gun. If the gun wasn't in his fathers possession to begin with, you bet your ass he wouldn't have been able to obtain one.

I don’t know of a long term effect but there are short term changes being made in some areas. One town is having recently retired officers be guards in schools after they undergo training which isn’t a bad idea imo. There was more to it than that but the story was a while ago so I forget the details.
