Just send them an email on the official site.

Express concern and safety issues and appreciation to a situation solved.

No need to link them lawsuits right away?

I tried, I was told "sorry not sure about our future plans but will consider" and when emailing the director of this location directly I didn't receive a single response. I just told them that there's a potential health risk and members would benefit from new equipment (I haven't seen anything except new treadmills in 2 years).

Is this how Americans see the world?

The perspective of how can I sue or pose the threat of to get what I want.

This is why that stereotype exists.

Roll with what you have and be fortunate to have bars at all.

Members paying ridiculous gym fees who are stuck in year long contracts deserve to be able to request basic equipment and have the needs met. It's not like I'm asking for 10 new power racks to take up one of their 5 yoga rooms.

You have a bar that holds weight. You have the basic equipment.

Learn to hold it.

Simple as that.

Gyms here are 95 to 115 a month and I feel fortunate to have a bar.

Good god you should just cancel your gym membership and sign yourself up for daycare. Fucking baby.

/e better yet don't do this because you'll probably try to sue them for not having "knurling" on the crib posts.

You can keep shit posting all you want, but nobody will take your opinion seriously in the future.

You can keep getting pushed around by commercial gyms while they make plenty of money if you want. Some of us choose to try to push some of their profits into usable equipment.

There are no chain gyms where I live and both owners have to work full time jobs aside from the gym to keep it a float. I'm not sure how much money you think people make off the people who lift weights. You must be in fantasy land or have no financial background whatsoever.

Maybe if you google "I'm a whiney bitch, improper bar knurling" you will get a result.

If you hadn't jumped to the immediate "how can I take legal action or threaten it" mentality this could be a fine thread of how to deal with shit gym equipment. (insert promo for a7 bar grip shirts)

But because you made yourself out to be that way right off the bat you are the one that will not be taken seriously.

Putting that aside and looking past that I have gone to gyms in the past before I moved where a group of powrrlifters just tossed a few bucks in a pot together and purchased a few nice bars. The gym was more than willing to keep them locked and stored there for their use only.

Iv also seen this with calibrated plates.

The average going rate of legal council is between 450 to 800 per hour for average council. Even if you wanted to make a real threat it would have to come from a lawyer for then to take it seriously and at that point you could have just purchased multiple bars yourself.

Difficult to type on a phone.

I'd seriously inquire if they would store a bar for you and if you have any buddies just split the cost. Iv seen it work and really it wouldn't run you much.

Hence why it's about "commercial" gyms and not local mom and pop shops. I would directly speak with the owner if this was an issue at a small hole in the wall gym nearby. Honestly those types of gyms actually value customer feed back unlike commercial gyms who really only care about once a month treadmill bunnies.

I actually did bring my own equipment in once and left it there (weight belt for adding weight to pull-ups/dips) and it was promptly lost/stolen/broken in the next few weeks.

There's a difference in THREATENING lawsuits and providing information. I'm not planning to walk in there and threaten, but moreso let them evaluate the risks themselves. If you know anything about IP law then you'd know it's common place to hire an IP lawyer when you're starting any new brand to run TM/IP checks. $1500 on the front-end is a helluva lot cheaper than millions on the back for infringements. Same thing goes with any business that isn't risk-averse (ie: insurance, banking, gyms, construction).

This is how I see it.

By winning a lawsuit you set stare decisis. By doing this you then open a massive can of worms where anyone can sue any little gym owner because a bar might not be up to an opinionated spec.

Once precedent is set its difficult to reverse. You can end up with anyone who wants to sue just dropping bars on themselves purposefully becsuse some knurling is worn.

It would be the equivalent to countries where everyone has dash cams becsue people will reverse on purpose to say they were rear-ended so they can sue.

In regards to your comment about evaluation of risks if it's a large chain the value analysis has been done already and proper insurance is in place for the risks of dateriation.

Sounds like your issue is with "commercial" gyms who "only care about once a month treadmill bunnies." You should cancel your membership to this commercial gym as soon as possible. Even if you have an outstanding contract with them just pay it off as soon as possible and don't risk injury to yourself by going back... After all there is not enough knurling on the bars and you wouldn't want to lose grip with your little weakling fingers. You might hurt yourself! Let the gym bunnies and grandmas deal with the dangerous bars.

You can use this experience going forward into the future by hopefully making better decisions about where you work out. A "local mom and pop's shop" might be the best place for you as you can have more say/input about alterations to such said gym... Your suggestions will go much further.

Instead of conniving ways to threaten lawsuits against places that don't live up to your personal preferences you should instead get over yourself and go someplace else which meets your expectations. It is a wonder why you would have ever put yourself into this situation to begin with...
