on fresh vs frozen

in theory fresh is always better, but by 'fresh' and 'fruit' i would suggest that the fresh fruit you get is not just "organic", but grown to a higher standard. plenty of organic farmers spray nasty "natural" chemicals on their fruit. i know this from reports from my wife's great-grandfather (RIP, he was awesome). you could just go ham and get organize frozen fruit, which is what i do. there's always some sort of risk. it depends on the fruit, too. non-organic bananas = probably just as good as organic bananas, assuming same basic soil conditions. whereas with berries organic is nearly always the better choice. but as it was mentioned earlier, 'fresh' can be twisted. toxins and gasses are often used to artificially ripen "fresh" fruit; there are sometime acid washes, too. so ... yeah.

i prefer the taste of farm fresh eggs myself over regular supermarket eggs. they don't peel as easily so a bit of baking soda helps for later peeling purposes if you're boiling them. i generally go for cooked eggs. they are nutritionally coherent.

tbh i tend to think that the worry people put into making sure they're consuming optimal nutrition generally outweighs any of the benefits they'll get from eating a bit cleaner :P i try to eat a pretty clean diet, but my point is that i do it with the attitude that it may provide me with an additional benefit. i don't fret over it though :)

i wouldn't trust raw eggs

fruits and veg supposedly don't suffer much nutritional degradation through flash-freezing at all. cooking is where that change happens in most cases.

is it safe to assume frozen veggies would also be richer than fresh ones too?

I agree with this, we get too caught up on details, it's just there are so many... this is better than this, don't eat this, eat that, consume X amount of this daily... hard not to get crazy about it!!

Assuming proper cracking technique where the yolk and albumin did not touch the exterior of the shell, the odds of the innards of an egg being contaminated by salmonella are on the order of 1 in 1 000 -10 000 so the chances of getting sick are quite low. That said, the odds of being struck by lightning in a thunderstorm are also quite low, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna go running around holding my umbrella up.

Interesting point. So should I cook the eggs in a pan and then throw 'em in the shaker? Is gonna taste different but I'm sure it won't be bad

Get the powdered eggs, has everything you need without the health hazards of raw.

Get fresh fruit as often as you can and then free it yourself.
I prefer to get berries and apples in the summer and freeze them, gf's parents have tons of tree's and briars.

Depends how they get cooked too. The best way to cook vegetables and preserve the nutrients is actually in the microwave (unless they're in water).

1. Cooked vs. raw eggs
2. Frozen vs. fresh fruits

Hello fellow HnFer's,

I have started ingesting HOME MADE & DELICIOUS shakes in the morning, as a breakfast. I put the following:

-2 hands of oats
-2 hands of frozen fruits
-2 raw eggs
-2.5 seconds of pouring almond milk in the shaker
-1 banana
-2-3 tbsp of peanut butta

1. I have told a friend of mine about my delicious home made shake, and he told me I should cook eggs before ingesting them. I did 3 minutes of research on the net and apparently uncooked eggs are not assimilated as easily as cooked ones. Plus, there are risks of getting food poisoning by salmonella. I'm asking because the goal of this shake is for it to be FAST, I don't want to cook them eggs in the morning ya dig? Any bad experience with raw eggs?

2. I know for sure fresh fruits are more dense nutritional-wise, but the question is how much more dense? Frozen are easier to keep long-term and probably less expansive. If fresh fruits are exceptionally better for your health, then I might consider buying fresh instead of frozen.

Thanks

1. get yourself some whey protein.

2. Depends. Unless the fruits are from your backyard or you get them from a farm close to you frozen is probably a better option.

since I have been pretty consistent about drinking this every morning, I decided to count its macros

I decided to go with frozen fruits and eggs white

50g oats (25 f/25 c/5 p)
1 banana (0 f/20 c/1 p)
500 ml ml almond milk (6 f/2 c/2 p)
250 ml white eggs (0 f/0 c/28 p)
3/4 cup greek yogurt (0 f/ 5c/18 p)
9g coconut oil (9 f/0 c/0 p)
60g peanut butter (32 f/16 c/12 p)
2 cups of frozen fruits (1 f/38 c/2 p)

total:

fats: 50g
carbs: 105g
protons: 65g

around 1130 calories

typically i'll drink that and hit the gym a few hours later, sometimes eat walnut before gym

then i'll have big post workout meal with complex carbs, lots of fibers & more protons

Chances of getting salmonella from a raw egg is relatively low, but I definitely wouldn't risk it.

Buy a quart of pasteurized egg whites from the grocery store to eliminate the risk of getting sick.
