Honestly there are worse sports out there in terms of injury potential. Rugby is hard but some of the hits in pro AFL make you absolutely cringe.

What uni did you play for? Also how well does westerns team do? I've always thought we were fairly decent at rugby but not necessarily top in canada

the muscles that instinctively tighten to brace for impact can get pretty damn sore, even if no direct damage was done to them.

have taken enough bmx falls to know this. land on your right arm but left arm gets sore, etc.

something happens where the the same muscles that become sore from a fall are the ones you haven't gotten sore from working out for years. maybe someone can clarify what this is.

Afl looks way more fun. Instead of getting tackled like a pussy and taking a break where everyone get unoffside (I still don't understand offsides) they just punt the ball into the middle of nowhere and everybody just charges the ball into a huge brawl, and repeat those guys r fuking crazy

Queen's University

Queen's & Western ran the OUA back then. Western won the ships most years and we would be 2nd to them. rn I think Queen's is on top and I assume Western is @ #2. Found this for 2015-16:

2015-16 OUA Men's Rugby Standings

GP PTS W-L PCT PF PA L10 STRK
Guelph 8 36 7-1 0.875 357 85 7-1 Won 1
Queen's 8 36 7-1 0.875 361 112 7-1 Won 7
Western 8 35 7-1 0.875 310 86 7-1 Won 4

Looks like the Guelph cnts got better but Queen's won the ship. Historically Queen's has been the dominant team, but Western and Mac are obv forces of nature, too. Rest are all small penor teams. You can see how frigging old I am by looking at the early 2000s and the block of win share btwn us & Western.

e: wow, what happened to UofT's program? They were so good in the early days. When I was playing UofT and RMC and a couple other teams were basically jokes, worse than some good hs teams. When I went to UofT after Queen's I refused to play for them. That's how I switched to basketball, snapped my ligaments off my ankle and became an old man.

Jaysus. Jaybus. Union is played with 15 men, League is 13 females who want to be men. League allows 10 girly substitutions, while stalwart union men get 7 total shift changes. A league try = 4 pts, probably b/c it's not hard to run through little girls. A union try = 5 pts after running through a gauntlet of minotaur-like beasts. League scrums allow 6 little bsiches, union allow 8 hard men to sort out their problems. The rules surrounding tackling etc. are generally a bit different. fml, this may do the trick: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_rugby_league_and_rugby_union

Any troglodyte can learn how to play one way, but then you suddenly need to become Einstein to play the other, because now you're trying to un-remember what you feel is right while learning what has made no sense since the dawn of time.

edit: a key to the difference afaik is a class difference. League was essentially lower and working class, but Union was for the "proper" lads, like grammar school nerds and university students. In some ways it still breaks down that way as most universities want to be union, and if you watch the RWC you will see Union rugby in part because royalty is into it, and mainly b/c that's just how things went. tbh a lot of guys have played both and in rare cases you will see that a guy plays a bit differently, mainly when he has played a lot of 7s, but also sometimes if he came from a big league background. 7s is a differently animal altogether but the main thing, if you weren't aware, is that the pitch allows only 7 guys per team.
