I'm thinking of going for 6 months on a bulk to see where I get, but I imagine that at that point I'm going to want to cut. Might push it to 8 months just so I can cut for summer and get an extra 2 months in the bulk.

Not sure what Tear is going on about with the whole not gaining weight thing though

I don't ever want to be 200 pounds unless I'm jacked out of my mind.

I maintained the same weight for 2-3 years, and filled out immensely.
people are way too concerned with bulks and cuts when they're fairly new to lifting (sub 3 years)

the biggest waste of time is cutting when you have no reason to (competition / photoshoot being only reason I could think of)

@gueto

if you're training right you can maintain weight and what you want fairly easily, just have to put the effort needed in the gym to do so

i agree with your sentiments regarding new lifters spending too much time cutting to be lean rather than growing and progressing.

But the science just doesnt seem to jive with your take on eating and lifting

I don't think that's how it works.

Also aren't you the one who isn't natty and not that great with nutrition?

Not everyone wants to look like a tree trunk, by the way.

i was natty for like 4-5 years lol
made more gains than 90% of this sub.

but idk man, you probably more jacked than i am and know more about lifting and have lifted for more years than me (8)

so you shouldn't listen to someone who's done it almost a decade.

Yes that's what I was saying. You're way bigger than I will ever be.

Just because you're big doesn't mean that you know what you're talking about though. Any ape can pick things up and put them down and see gains, especially if they bulk continuously for years.

im just saying you're wasting your time bulking and cutting.
shits simple but no matter what your goals its useless to unless you have a specific reason.

only been doing this almost a decade, trained people who have every possible goal you can imagine, but you're right, you probably know what you're talking about more than i do.
continue being the wise and experienced one.

Bulking and cutting are just buzz words for phases of caloric surplus and deficit.

Are you saying you don't need a surplus to gain weight or a deficit to lose weight?

im saying you shouldnt worry about neither.

He's saying you can eat what your body needs and make gains but not really gain a bunch of weight in the process. You don't have to be in a 750 calorie surplus to see strength gains. Strength doesn't necessarily correlate with mass.

Sure eating a big calorie surplus guarantees you're getting what your body needs to grow and get stronger/put on mass, but it isn't 100% necessary. Think of it as a "clean bulk," if you will..
