I recommend a single/ fixed gear

They are extremely fun, provide a great workout and easily maintainable.

I bought one for around 275$. Put new gator skin tires on ( highly recommend) cheap seat / chain / double wrapped the handle bars, got some clip less pedals / shoes

The bike is awesome and is quite the eye catcher, get a lot of looks / compliments.

I did have to buy a few different freewheels to try to find a perfect gear ratio for myself since I live on a huge hill,I needed something to be able to get up a huge hill but still be able to go a decent speed on flats . I average 13-15mph, I also ride single due to the hill I live on

My biggest ride is 90.5 miles in a day. I absolutely love the bike, besides that I think it is SLIGHTLY too small . Make sure you get the right siZe.

I can keep up with older geared bikes but not a chance with a new trek Fuji giant Etc geared that averages 18+ mph. But the single speed is so much fun !!

Ooo, I like the paint job on that! Sexy bike.

@ OP to give you a comparison in prices I found my most recent road bike on sale for $410 that is a pretty standard price for entry level road bikes compared to fixies, so it's a decent price jump. Especially if you don't have too many hills around your area fixies are the way to go if you just want to get on and go.

Pick of mine just for reference of entry level bike & cause need more bike pictures in this thread now.
