I find it surprising how many people say $250 is a small amount to lose in one sitting. What are you playing? lol and how much money do you make? $250 is a days wage or more for a lot of people. That's not a small amount of money in my mind
I've lost 200-250 several times. I actually keep track of my wins and losses ever since I started going to the casino with my buddy. In my whole life, I've lost $1395 (adding up all the losses and subtracting all the winnings) all time in the 3 years I've been going.
I mostly play blackjack, and go with a certain amount, and don't pull more to try to win back what was lost. That's where you get in to trouble. I do it for entertainment and that is all. When I go, I go with the expectation of losing the money, even if the goal is to win money and be entertained in the process
Never gamble with money you can't afford to lose, ever.
I can fully understand how people get addicted to gambling. It's exciting. The high and lows emotionally when you win big and lose big is enticing. It's easy for thrill seeker type people to get addicted imo.
Over all, the amount of money I've lost at the casino is well worth the ridiculous amount of hours I've been entertained, fun times, interesting conversations with random people, free drinks etc etc. I've even gone to the casino with buddies and not gambled, even though I went with the intent to gamble. It can be just fun/interesting observing people. I've seen people go on winning streaks I could only dream of. It's crazy. I've had a couple decent winning streaks, but my losing streaks have been pretty absurd a time or 2
Gambling is funnest when you're on vacation in a new place. The caribbean is a great place to gamble for fun in my experience.
I've never lost more than $200 in a day at the casino, but $250 isn't enough to go nuts about. It sucks to lose any money, yes, but you shouldn't be going broke over it - if you are, then you should never step foot in a casino anyway. I've lost $200 in roulette once, and lost $200 in blackjack once. (As for income, ~$120/hr).
In total, I'm up like $2k + comps. I got lucky - the first time I got a player rewards card at a casino near me, I forgot the card in a slot machine (got $10 of free slot play for signing up). People must have kept playing while my card was in the machine. The next time I went back, I asked for a new card and they said I had been upgraded in membership. Apparently $42k went through the slot machine while my card was in it. After that, I was sent coupons for free slot play, good blackjack coupons (a free hand each week - if you win, you get $75), and 2 free nights at the resort each month. (I live within 30 minutes of 3 casinos in Arizona, the closest is less than a 10 minute drive).
You nailed it though - expect to lose everything you walk in to a casino with. Even with knowing to count cards and having a slight advantage, you still can go on a streak and lose. I'm glad I've only had that happen once though lol.

i lost 1200$ lol and thats being a part time worker and a college student. you'll get over it. 250$ in the grand scheme of thing is nothing. i put 200$ on black in roulette lol (and lost). i enjoy gambling here and there but like mentioned before, only gamble what your comfortable losing. take it as a lesson that maybe you aren't cut out for gambling if you dont wanna lose money. with the exception of texas hold em, the odds are ALWAYS against you in any table game/slot machine no matter what strategy you have. theres no getting rid of a house edge, only reducing it by not making obviously stupid bets. i enjoy the thrill part of it having a 100-200$ on the table at once and knowing the roll of the dice or where the ball lands can produce a big win or have it all wiped away in one shot. the idea is to make your money last the night and spread the fun out. not lose 600$ like i did in 25 minutes lol
with blackjack, counting does work to put the edge in your favor..but, in perfect circumstances, you still will only tend to see 2%-3% in your favor, which is only beneficial with huge sums of money, or long stretches of time
