I'm joining a special ops unit soon (3 months) after having served in normal infantry. The cardio there used to be pretty lame and not hard at all, 2 miles in 12 minutes. However, now they upped the standards up to 2 miles in 10 minutes as well as a 300 meter spring in 45 seconds. I've been bulking so I haven't been doing cardio at all. My question is, how can I keep doing the cardio needed without losing muscle mass. And yes, I know "calories in>calories burnt" etc. Just looking for a more in depth answer.

you did answer it yourself... Calories in is key - be it working on a meal plan which fits your training and duties or getting access to calorie dense foods and weight gainers, you need that constant intake.
Cycling your types of cardio (i.e. between steady state and HIIT might help you to see more gains in that regard) might help.
I would ask anybody from the clique you're trying to get into or a senior staff member of that division what they would recommend.
Best of luck,
Baerr
