Really $255 for something that's gonna last for 5-10 years. That's like a days work for lots of us on here . (I realize that may not be the situation for the op yet)

I'd drop 3.5k for a home gym. I just don't have a place I want to settle yet!

I am a value investor through and through though, long and strong

Hunt for deals on used items lots of people buy and never use!

If you do powerlifting or regular training overall you don't need bumperplats/olympic barbell.
If you however do some olympic lifting a OL barbell and bumpers ''is a must''.

Eleiko masterrace.
If you have the money that is. It's lifetime guarantee (unless they've changed it) and you can send it back if it would be any problems and get a brand new bar if they can't fix it.
Tfw getting Eleiko shit for free cause they sponsor our liftingclub.

Don't listen to the haters, you can still get a great workout in without olympic gear. I used standard plates/bar for months before buying an olympic set.

With that being said, let me outline a few things for you.

Standard:
- Little to no resell value
- Lower quality weights which have a shorter life span
- Takes longer to add weights/collar (normally standard comes with a screw on that nearly takes a minute just to secure, HUGE pain adding/removing weight).

Olympic:
- Almost always a market for gear/high resell value
- Higher quality and much longer life span, the equip will outlast you if you treat it right (better knurling, thicker bar, can make for a much more enjoyable workout)
- Easily add/remove weights/collars

At the end of the day it's up to you, you can still get a great workout without the olympic gear, however I absolutely recommend you invest in olympic gear. If you do opt to go for standard gear, for the love of god, DO NOT buy new.

If you're tight on a budget check kijij/craigslist for used gear, especially if you're investing in standard gear. There's a reason you got the weights for free, you may manage to find a barbell/dumbbells for free as well..

Thanks, that's what I was interested in. I got probably 120 lbs in weight, two dumbbells with interchangeable weights and a curl bar for free. So my only real investment into standard gear right now is a barbell for $25.

And probably a stupid question, but could I put an Olympic weight between two standards and clip them so I don't have to buy more standard weights? I think another 50lbs would last a couple of months while I save up for a real set.

yeah, just the CAD/USD exchange is shit right now, after currency conversion up here and cash rate and taxes, a Canadian such as myself to buy that bitch is looking to pay about $410 + shipping, and that's if I have it shipped state side. Cost to ship that baby to Canada, would be hilarious

I've been wanting a home gym for a long long time. Some day maybe I'll have a a couple G's to drop on one and a room or garage to put it in

Could you? Yes.. But regardless of being between the weights it will move during lifting, wouldn't recommend.

Just find someone selling standard plates for dirt cheap (trust lots of people just want them gone, I've given plenty away myself) and save up for an Olympic set (usually cheaper if you get the bar + weight set together).

And that's top of the line OLY shit.
