Because I don't have a gym membership and also because I don't really know what I'm doing so I'll probably look like a puny scrawn to everyone else so I wanna gain some weight at home first so I can start off on an acceptable weight if I ever do get a membership

Most people at the gym don't notice what other people are doing. But if you're doing something really dumb you will probably end up on youtube. Just join a gym and use the free training sessions they offer (most offer something with a trainer) since they'll be able to show you correct form on lifts. If you're still concerned you can always pay for a few sessions so you aren't as uncomfortable and will get an idea of what to do. There are also a ton of beginner workout routines you can follow out there.
