essentially, your exercises can be used as accessories

squats and deadlifts are functional movements which carry over more to things like jumping, running, moving shit around, posture, etc

as it was said, if you only want to look muscular, they arent necessary, even though they are excellent exercises to pack on size, if you want to become strong, theres no way around them

my goal is to just get stronger, i dont wanna look big without being strong
i much more prefer looking weak but being strong than looking strong and being weak

ive never really associated my lifting as functional movements except maybe jumping for when i play sports, but not much other than that :P lifes not physically demanding

were you asking about my deadlift to compare how much squat i could do?

Try a 135 lb squat. See how it goes. Go from there.

yeah, since leg press doesnt really give a good indication, a well trained persons dl is generally a bit higher than the squat

i'd recommend adding squats in, not only because theyre more functional but theyre also a good exercise to gain strength/size and integrate the muscles youve been training individually

I've done it before, I put it into my routine for a couple weeks but then i went back to my regular leg routine for a few reasons
one being i was told to avoid squats and also i didn't feel comfortable with the exercise in general (whether i was doing it properly etc), so i felt id be better sticking with what i know

squats are an exercise used in therapy aswell as training, unless you have a specific condition (joint problems, tendonitis, etc) stopping you from doing them, there is no reason to avoid them

not feeling comfortable with the exercise is another reason to do them to master the movement rather than not being able to do them at all, u only get better by doing them

e/ meaning unless the person who told you to avoid squats is your health professional, its a load of bull, probably their own excuse to skip legs

Really confuses me when people would squat when there is probably a leg press nearby. Squat is probably the mlst overated movement, followed by the deadlift. Not functional in the slightest.
Oh brb let me put this heavy as fuk skinny bar on my back and squat with it - oh yeh really functional in the real world

he was saying heavy squating will increase chances of joint problems and back problems

something along the lines that all weight lifting wears and tears your body over time but squats are higher on the list and thats why he avoids them
