Ideal technique for hookgrip is to grip the tip of your thumb (nailarea) with middlefinger and then placing the indexfinger over the joint.
Inb4 people complain about having manlethands when 56kg weightlifters can do hookgrip for snatch.
Oly bars are 28mm and gym bars are often over 30mm thought.
