I agree number obsession doesn't get you any closer to size, but a progressive overload is still a must, as outlined in #14

aye and in your list weight is not very significant even with adding weight the focus is still keeping the same reps not focusing on weight. With ANY lifting weight is a factor but with hypertrophy its just not an issue and most people get their heads stuck there.

weight is everything actually.
add absolute weight to the bar = weight added
adding more reps to the set = weight added
adding more sets = weight added
more tut/rom or shorter rest periods= weight added

etc etc. Look at where you where when you didn't train at all, you had an average load on the body that gave you the musculature you had (average non-trained physique). Then you started training, you've added average weightload to your daily life which added FFM. If you keep going without adding weight in any way, you'll reach a plateau in your physique.

exactly how big are you?

ronnie coleman was a freak, one of the only bodybuilders who could lift like he did and be a bodybuilder

seriously saying strength and mass go hand in hand is fucking stupid and 100% wrong, its what skinny people and powerlifters say, not bodybuilders

ronnie was a fairly accomplished pl before he started BB..

and he also fucked his body up royally throughout his career, having had at least 2 knee surgeries, and iirc 1 or both hips replaced..

i don't know why everyone argues so much over different training principles / philosophies since everyone will respond differently to different training regiments.. people want the 'perfect' routine, but don't realize that all accomplished weight lifters have gone through years of trial and error finding what works best for them

yes, but still volume will trump strength if you are trying to pack on muscle mass, and people need to get it out of their head that strength and size go hand in hand if size is their goal.

Nobody's really arguing techniques. There's a baseline fact that some people just think can be overlooked, and that's average load. People actually have muscle from walking around, talking, chewing and doing various other mundane activities in life. They'll have more if they begin doing heavier activities like strenuous labor and going to the gym. They'll have more still if they increase their output over time.

Whether focusing on absolute strength or volume/frequency is another debate altogether.
