If I had a high paying job which I some what enjoyed (e.g. investment banking, private equity, hedge funds etc) I wouldn't mind working long ass weeks.

for 9 months I worked 14 hours per day, 7 days per week, that's 96 hour work week.

you get used to working ~ 100 hour weeks pretty fast as long as you don't have a family it aint bad imo.

wake up 6 am - work til 8pm (obviously ate breakfast, lunch, dinner @ work) Even went to the gym at work

8pm - 10pm watch a movie
10pm - 12pm surf web/face til sleep.

This, I worked a job that was 100 hour weeks for a year

I don't get it. Either of you care to post a schedule for a 100 hour work week? I'm pretty sure that equates to zero free time & zero time for friends or family. How exactly is that "not bad"?

I work 9+9+9+9+4 = 40 hours:

alarm goes off @ 6:00
clock in @ 7:00
clock out @ 5:00 (1 hour lunch)
gym, get home @ 7:00

2 hours to cook, eat, clean, do basic chores
2 hours free time

go to sleep @ 11:00

With my 40 hour work week, best case scenario I have 2 hours of free time per day during the week. If I had a family that would literally go to zero free time aside from weekends and I would likely have to quit working out.

I'm not really sure what I'm getting at here.

You consider having only 2 hours of free time per day + 2 hours of working out
I would consider it has 4 hours of free time, 2 of which I use to work out

I'd rather not eat ramen noodles until im 65.

I've never had a problem eating out every other day and getting 2500 calories of good food daily as well ;p If you cook for yourself, food is relatively inexpensive tbh.

Most people just get fucked up buying shitty products that are way overpriced, instead of cooking for themselves.

but yeah your point is valid, you won't be able to afford what someone who is working every day can afford, obviously lol, my proposal is that you may or may not necessarily need it.

I am so thankful every day that I do something I love. I wake up and say to myself "YES, ITS MY DAY ON SHIFT TODAY!" and go to "work" with the biggest smile on my face.

right now i'm an employee, but i'm in a career where i can choose to be a contractor. so i have the flexibility of working 40-60h/week year round for 100-180k or i can work 40h-60/week for 6 months a year for 50-90k, which is pretty cool. especially if i get married and wifey works and gives me health insurance.

I burnt out of Earlier this year because my job worked me into the ground.

I bet none of you have experienced working from 8 am one day to 5 am the next day, then sleeping on the floor for a few hours until 8 am and resuming the next work day.

I did this at least 5 times earlier this year. Most of the time though I would work until at least 2 am then take a 1 hour bus ride home pass out at home for a few hours at the office and then wake up and take another 1 hour commute back to work.

I can't even count the number of times being focused on work made me skip meals either ...

Was it worth it? Hell no. I don't even make a lot of money. I did it because I wanted to achieve perfection and show my bosses how dedicated I am to getting work done and meeting deadlines regardless of how unrealistic the deadlines were.

But now I'm taking time off work to travel and do what I love. When I go back I will refuse to work the hours I did previously. I want a normal life and I will work the 9-5 and that's it.
