Who the fuck works at gym's to cut hair is the real question, I had a PF contract aswell almost a year ago, I can say we did not have that perk, pretty weird to me.

I would say stay at PF until you can't use their equipment anymore, that's what I did, my PF only went to 75lbs on the dumbells and lacked in many other things (such as squat racks and benches)

Once I broke using 75's for all pressing actions I decided to move on to a club fitness that was also much closer, whos dumbells up to 200, (nowhere near that, just referencing)

Also another thing that was an addition that I greatly appreciate more than the free weight bench and squat racks, are the hammer strength machines, where you actually get to put plates on and each side moves by themselves rather than PF's shitty cable machines.

tl;dr version: go cheap til it starts to hinder your gains.

Our best gyms in socal consist of La Fitness, 24 hour fitness, & Golds gym. They all include everything a person with bodybuilding aspirations has. $30-$40.

Our cheapest gyms are Crunch at $10, Planet Fitness at $9, & Fitness 19 at $7. All but Planet Fitness have weightlifting equipment. Idk where you live but your gyms are terrible and.overpriced.

I workout at the Rochester Athletic Club & Cafe 100$ Monthly and the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center - Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota 60$ Monthly

Gyms in Rochester, MN:
WOW - Work Out World 10$
    Planet Fitness 10$
    Snap Fitness 24/7 35$
    Edge Fitness 500$ Annually
    Northgate Gym 29$
    YMCA 15$
    Farrell's idk
    Curves idk
    Crossfit x like ten
    etc

Holy fuck US gym prices are so cheap lmao.

Gym's are enjoying a huge training trend going on over here, the last few years the amount of people actively going to the gym has absolutely sky-rocketed so there's virtually no need to turn down the prices.

$10 a month for a gym membership? How the fuck do they even make a profit on that? yard-sale equipment and no employees working there? The gym's over here are struggling to pay their rent at $50-60/month even though they are tiny complexes.

asking myself the same question here in Montreal
theres this gym that just opened, membership is 10$/month compared to the usual 30-50$/month... equipment is all brand NEW
im thinking it will take them 30 years to start seeing some profit...

its ridiculous unless the owner is a drug dealer looking for a way to launder his money.

Most gyms in the US aren't tiny complexes.

thats his point
huge complexe = higher rent usually = membership "should" be higher than 10 bucks a month, considering higher rent and more equipment to buy to fill the space

Erm yeah and? That's my point.

All the more reason to turn up the price... Larger complex = higher rent.

For instance, the gym I go to is 2000m² (which is about 22,000 ft² for you guys) and right in the town centre (in a shitty ass small town with 15K people) and their rent is about $50,000 per month. Similar sized gyms in Oslo will be paying A LOT more than $50k/month for their rent.

Still in order to cover $50,000 rent you need 5000 customers (which would be 1/3 the population of my town) paying $10 per month, obviously a highly unrealistic number and that's just the rent. Then there's staff salaries, electricity bill, maintenance, taxes (corporate tax, VAT etc), and so on.

FYI they charge $100/month and I believe they have 2000 members so roughly $200,000/month revenue not including the sales of protein bars, shakes, solarium, spray tans, massages, PT lessons and such.

So my point is, I can hardly fathom how US gyms can charge $10/month and make a profit...

A bigger complex equals more people paying which means you can charge less per member....it's about volume of members in a larger space. Smaller complexes obviously have to charge more per customer as they can only fit so many in a smaller space.

Since there are a shit ton of chain gyms here, they have to compete with each other so the price drops.

no. you are only considering 1 aspect
more people paying, yes, but more equipment, higher rent, higher fees for maintenance, electricity, more employees, etc et cetc

theres nothing obvious here, you just cant think straight

edit: also, its not because a gym is "bigger" that theres more people going there at any time compared to a smaller gym
we've all seen some packed smaller gyms and some empty bigger gyms

This forum is exhausting these days. I'm taking into account a larger complex being in a more rural part of a town due to the lack of space in a crowded urban centralized location. Typically lower rent.

If we're talking about a small gym located in bumfuck nowhere then sure...they may not have to charge more.
