If you do it correctly, then it's amazing.

I still don't get it though. We used to do very very similar workouts for wrestling and football summer camps. Not all day but we would pick and choose certain things to do. we mixed cardio with weights. Kind of like HIIT training with weights but a cycle and we don't stop for 45 minutes. We break up into 3 huge groups and basically do crossfit. The only break we get is walking to the next station lol.

Where the fuck did crossfit come from? THey just change it up a tiny bit and call it crossfit?

I'm curious lol

they took the theory of cycle training, combined it with oly lifts and bad form and called it crossfit

My issues with crossfit:

1) Explosive and technical movements done in a highly fatigued state

2) Taking circuit training that has been around forever and turn it into a proprietary thing with a 'cult like' following

I don't care what anyone says, doing really technical lifts in a fatigued state is just asking for trouble as technique will break down quickly. 30 rep snatches are NEVER a smart idea, especially when the participants have sub-par form to begin with.

As for re-branding circuit training, well, that was just a lovely marketing thing that worked, and worked well. But, don't act like it is something new and great - athletes have used that type of training for off-season work for decades and no one else seemed to care until this took off.

With that being said, if you aren't training for anything specific, want to look good, be in much better shape, while dancing around a slightly elevated chance of injury, then I would be all for it.

If you are training for something specific though, then go in a different direction.

Yes it's a difference, but it's more similar then comparing power lifting to cross fit.

Maybe i don't even understand cross fit at all. All i know is..i've seen people work out at a cross fit gym and they basically just rush through their workouts. No isolation for muscle groups or form.

I guess people train for different things, but what exactly does cross fit do again? Cause we do all sorts of weighed down workouts like that in the military or at camp.

I just don't understand cross fit at all.

oh well.

oh wellllll!!!!!!

haha. I don't even know why pro athletes would risk their body doing cross fit. That stuff is absurd.

I need to talk to a cross fit specialist :P

I was thinking about this, and yeah. Our training really was "sports specific". Oh well.

I see the difference now, but i still dont understand the point of cross fit. You can get what you get from cross fit else where. Idk.

Rhabdo, doesn't make any sense, bad for joints, bad form, no focus ... just my 2 cents.

isn't rhabdo nearly impossible to get if you're properly nourished, though?

It has nothing to do with nourishment. It has everything to do with the physical stress put on the tissue. You can get rhabdo from crushing injuries where something heavy falls on your leg and disrupts enough myocyte membrane damage to cause stress to the kidneys.
