You guys can't seriously be comparing college/grad school as an entirety with nutrition and mechanics of lifting

There are many undergrad/graduate level students studying exercise science and nutrition. No, it doesn't require many years of studying to become a competent trainer, however, direct access for a couple of months to someone who is knowledgeable will surely expedite the learning process.
