i think its mostly how its gets marketed.
as if it is some super healthy diet which will help you lose weight magically.
even tho its not healthier than other diets.
i bet most people dont even know what gluten is, but hey its glutenfree so thats a nice asset no?
i can see that i guess, especially when it is made into a cult-like wonder cure, sure (luckily, i haven't been exposed to that)..i do think it is kind of dumb to try to replicate normal things using abnormal ingredients though (such as "paleo bread" made with a million different flours and such - just eat damn bread if you want bread)..but, for the most part, people pick it apart 'just because'..i don't see it as deserving more ridicule than any other diet though, and i don't see any detriment from eating this way either
personally, i have done a paleo
TYPE diet and lost weight painlessly..the idea of eating things that can instantly be recognized as "having grown from the ground"(vegetables) or "had a face"(meat) appeals to me
when i do it, i don't use any guidelines from an actual 'paleo diet'..i just simply cut out highly processed foods/carbs (my biggest thing was no bread/breading/pasta) and tried to eat things in a basic form
i would say 90-95% of what i ate was either a vegetable or meat (i love cheese and making sauces when i cook, so i know they don't always fit with the normal paleo idea, which is why i say 90-95% lol)..i made sure i got carbohydrates by eating root vegetables - such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips, turnips, beets, etc.
from my own experience with doing this, i actually felt better, my skin cleared up, and i leaned out a lot (went form 238 to 209 in 9 weeks)..i didn't count macros or calories, just ate until i was full, which with lots of vegetables, would be a good thing
i am not sure if i have gluten intolerance or not (i tried keeping gluten to minimum to see what effect it had, and yes, i know what it is), but i do know that i regularly eat a lot of food as i enjoy food and love cooking all sorts of things (have been trained to do so by being on a perpetual bulk while doing track)
so, by cutting out calorie dense foods (breads/pastas/'junk'), i was still able to eat a lot but not worry about my calories being way too high, and that is why i think it worked for me
on the aspect of health, i don't know how it can argued as 'not healthier' when compared to some of the other diets whose followers denounce it..i usually see people following IIFYM shit on this type of eating - i can see how eating a diet including mcdonalds, pizza rolls, hot pockets, pop tarts, etc can result in weight loss (as yes, it comes down to thermodynamics), but i can't see how it can be argued as equally healthy unless you are also cutting a lot of the same stuff out of the other diet (i just say this as cutting out highly processed things results in less preservatives/chemicals, more nutrient dense food, and more control over what is actually going into your food)
i can try to see both sides of the aspect, but with that, i don't get why it seems to be shit on the most lol
