One thing's for sure, I can do pull ups (From a dead hang) With a 50 lb weight belt hanging from my hips.

Your pussy cousin has a long way to go before he does that. Might as well just quit now imo

inb4 growth stunt

its not recommended for children under the age of 14 to lift weights (unless very light) because theyre still in their peak of growth and damage to the tissues between the long bones (forgot name) can stop their growth, which isnt worth the reward

ex. if he fucks up his left arm, he'll end up with a longer right arm

also he wont gain much muscle at his age and squats could affect his height if he fucks up

I thought this was debunked? Is there consensus that lifting would have a detrimental effect on your growth?

I am pretty sure that is somewhat debunked, at least from my understanding. Usually, what is referred to is when the actual growth plates are damaged is a fracture from trauma (major), or some sort of major overuse(minor). I don't believe it is an extremely common thing, and when it happens, it would usually be unilateral (like, you would damage the growth plate on your left femur and not the right). The growth plate is just an area of 'unhardened' bone, so it is weaker than the rest of the developed bone around it, and damaging the growth plate doesn't necessarily mean it will stop growing either. It can be treated just like any other broken bone - manipulated or setting with immobilization.

I wish I started lifting when I was younger. Not too seriously, but to just develop the good habit.

Technique and mobility should be the main focus to create the best possible results

Yeah, definitely. When I started, that was my focus for a good few months. And even now, I still consistently work on them.

Every person I've helped with OL have been forced to practice with a broomstick until they get a hang of the lifts.

People that rush into lifting will get injured.

I'm still working with a broken broomstick at my gym. My shoulders and pecs were super tight and this really loosen things up and improved my shoulder health.
Although my form has been much better than when I started, I'm still afraid to do olympic lifts at the gym. We don't have platforms or bumper plates and I feel kind of bad even deadlifting there. lol

First world gym problems.
